Had two very different experiences on the same day.Was looking for a 3/4 to 1/2 inch reducing nipple and the big red colored chain store said yes we have that item for $26.65 +gst.Ohh that is really expensive.the answer was because we have a large range and items are always in stock. You will need to go to the Sunshine branch to pick it up though.
Western Plumbing Supplies in Willamstown was closer and i like the people there.no worries mate that will be $6.00.
Also got a 3 piece ball valve for $33 in 1/2 inch stainless.(Red chain store $67 +GST)

So if you are in the West of Melbourne these guys are really helpful.

Does anyone else have a preferred plumbing supplier they use for there bits and bobs.

Not affiliated to this store just a happy camper.

Cheers SCum

In my experience, unless you are in the plumbing trade, plumbing supply shops are as bigger bush rangers as the red and green warehouses.

I get the impression that they look you up and down and think "you should be getting a plumber to do that" and charge you accordingly.

I use Gottlieb's Builders Supply (they specialise in plumbing).

Service can be poor depending on the time of day, but they have almost anything you're after at a fraction of the price elsewhere - we recently replaced a Bosch external hot water heater $699 Gottlieb's was quoted $1400 and up elsewhere. No other supplier even close on price.

Cheers

I've been using Geordi http://www.geordi.com.au for stainless fittings. Friendly, helpful staff, prices are ok and they give a discount for cash sales.

craftbrewer.com.au and kegking.com.au have the best range of stainless (and brass) supplies at the most reasonable prices I've found. I got a stack of ss plumbing bits and bobs from CB not long just ordering off their website. Easy as. Also got stuff from keg king too, but they don't have an online shop and its a hell of a drive out there.

Glad this has helped you.

Any good suppliers around inner Sydney? I need some stainless bits - a tee piece and 2 compression fittings - and wouldn't mind saving myself an hour drive to T&S valves at Ingleburn if I can help it

Jez, can't speak for inner Sydney suppliers, but I have two 1/2 compression fittings you're welcome to grab from me for what I paid for them. I'll be in Sydney on the weekend. PM if you are interested. (Can't help on the T piece though)

Cheers,

Nick

i have bought a few bits and pieces from pirtek, they carry a wide range of stainless fittings, and if they dont have what you want, they can usually get it in within 24 hours

they also machined a fitting for me to suit my application while i waited
