Now Ive never been one to follow a recipe, I even struggle keeping to my own, by the time brew day is finished the Brew sheet is invariably covered in bits crossed out, arrows and scribbles of what actually happened, but I thought it might be good to have a resource of recipes that have gone the distance to the State finalists or Nationals and placed. (Had a search couldnt find anything)

As such I cant even contribute yet as the beast Ive done is a 4th in the State comp. (mumbles... 2 frikkin points... why is it always 2 frikkin points... served at 16'c... mumbles)

So something like this for format?

Name:
Place:
Style:
Malts:
Adjuncts:
Mash Schedule:
Hop Schedule:
Yeast:
Ferment Temps:
Water additions:
Notes:

Just a thought that a database of 'winners' recipes may be a good resource.

For many years, Vicbrew produced a winning-recipes booklet that detailed exactly that for Victorian brewers. Whilst it's been on the back-burner for the past couple of years, I believe that it's to be resurrected (there's a LOT of work involved in putting it together). I'll see if I can find out more & post back here.

Great idea for a National database, 'though.

Just do a search for 'Barry' (Cranston). Surely one of the most awarded brewers and a guy who has always been so modest as to not post anything other than peer reviewed (read award winning) recipes.

I would offer up my "Get Your kit Off" winning recipe from last year (that coincidently beat you by 2 points).....

If you can call an out of date can, left over spec grain, oddments of hops that were laying around and the yeast slurry of a previous brew a recipe.

Two points! I got done by half a point...

But, as one of the place getters couldn't field a second bottle of beer, mine is off to the Nationals this weekend.

No, I do not expect it to do well.

Barls mead
10kgs of honey
Made up to 23 L
Fermented with D47 during winter so in the teens somewhere
Aged on Hungarian oak
Top score nsw comp but not eligible for best in show as Aaba rules don't include mead and cider this year.

Reporting back as promised:

The winners at Vicbrew for the past few years have all been requested to provide their recipes & notes/comments in a standardized format, so a booklet can be produced. It's just a matter of waiting for them all to come in before it can be collated & printed-up.
