Planning to brew a Golden Ale for a mate that is No-Chilled and with the following attributes;
  • a nice hoppy content inc. aroma
  • low on the ABV %
  • with a dry, clean finish.
Recipe -

OG - 1.034
ABV - 3.5%
IBU - 29
EBC - 6

Malts

Pilsner - 3kg
Wheat (raw) - 500g
Cara Pils - 200g

Mash Profile

Mash at 20c/5mins (mashin), 64c/60mins, 72c/10mins, 78c/15mins(mashout)

Hops

Galaxy (AA% 14) - 14g for 60mins
Cascade (AA% 5.6) - 28g for 20mins
Galaxy (AA%14) - 21g Cube Hopped or 35g Steeped @ 80c for 20 mins

Ferment with Nottingham Dry Yeast @ 19c

Open to suggestions and critique :)

I would bring your mashin temp up to 52.
Change your yeast to an American one or windsor, notto will strip the hop flavour a bit.
Do your bittering addition at 40min to 25ibu
Add the aroma hops at flame out.
If you are going to cube hop, sit the full, sealed cube in the laundry tub to slow chill it. (swimming pools work better than laundry tubs)
Or instead of cube hopping try the argon method.

Cheers

Sounds good brad, I can run with a US05 dry yeast, I wasnt aware ( as i havent used before ) nottingham would do that.

For the hop bill just a 40 min addition to 25IBU and then the aroma after flameout ( for me that would be a steeping )

appreciate the input.

Kill the cat, whats the argon method? ( yes i could google it but the floor is yours ) or a link whichever you prefer.... :)

went ahead with a brew day today.

hit target 1.036 OG.

Decided to use an Irish Ale yeast that i had in the fridge from a batch of oatmeal stout i made. The starter kicked off so i went ahead an pitched that into the wort - after adding O2 offcourse.

Mash in 20c
38c/10mins
50c/20mins
