Hi All,

I'm planning a Best Bitter for Friday, and with several recent mentions of FWH, I thought I'd give it a go.

For a 23L batch, I'm planning

4.5kg MO
0.3kg Crystal (60EBC)
0.2kg Wheat malt

50g EKG (6.5%) FWH
20g EKG dry hopped

Wyeast 1275 (washed from an OB).

Beer Alchemy claims 34.7 IBU from the single FWH addition. Does this sound in the ballpark?

cheers,
T.

Haven't done any FWHing myself, but my house bitter has an IBU of 34, so yeah, it seems pretty spot on.

I used Fuggles at 60, then EKG at 30 and 0.

When the beer is cold, its just like John Smiths Extra Cold (I know, not the best beer, but my Father-in-law was craving it), as it comes upto just below room temperature all the hop notes start coming through, its lovely. 20L didnt last longer than 10 days...oh, and it was hand pumped too :)
