Apart from the rudiments, fridges are a mystery to me.
The fridge part of my beer fridge stopped cooling yesterday even though the freezer seems to be functioning normally (-22C). As it has only one compressor, how can this happen and is it worthwhile getting it repaired. I have had it since 1972 so it has given good service. Maybe its time to go down the chest freezer path.
Looking for good advice.
Cheers,

try giving it a whack with both hands, both sides simultaneously.

Ahhh the good ol' give it a bash trick!

Timmy, I'll try anything, but are you pulling my leg?
Whats the science behind this?

Timmy is a fridgy I think, so I'd definitely give it a go, whatever it does.

If the technical whack doesn't work there may be a prob.

IF there are traces of oil on any refrigerant lines its a good sign of a leak. Has it been gradually getting worse.

Likely problem- Gas leak. Less likely blocked line/drier. Another possibilty if its a frost free model the fan may have seized.

And yes, i was pulling your leg with the whacking tip.

If the cooling element is in the back of the fridge and feels warm on one side and cool on the other then there might be a gas leak, if this is the case I have been told that it can be expensive to get these repaired. It may, as you suggest be time to go down the chest freezer path.
