Just getting ready to bottle my LCPA style clone. I had taken 3 hydrometer readings by taking a sample from the tap then dipping the end of tap into a small glass containing sanitising fluid. Anyway today as I got ready to bottle noticed the inside of the tap looked nasty with some black looking gunk in the small spout that hangs down.
Managed to clean it up using a cotton bud or two dipped in bleach/vinegar solution in the dilution as recommended on this forum so many times.

Good job I spotted it before sticking the bottling wand in the tap. Would have been spewing if I had managed to infect my most expensive kit todate.
You have to be so vigilant with this keeping clean.

Just put down the next Toucan stout.

1x Molloys Irish Morgan Stout
1x Coopers Dark Ale
500g DME + 500g CSR Treacle.
OG 1.055

Intending to use the Brewcellar English Ale Yeast 15g as supplied in Morgan's Kit. when the wort temp drops.

I have also a packet of Safale 04 and 05 yeast in store but I heard the Morgan's Chairman Yeasts are quite good to go. :)

Hello dere,

I always run off 1/2 cup or so into a jug before putting anything up the spout. <_< Gets rid of a bit of yeast as well.

I use a spray bottle filled with bleach solution (1 part bleach, 3 parts water). Give it a good spray after each sample and before bottling/kegging.

Also , for keggers, you would be surprised at the gunk that gets up the keg tap.

Dave

You got 1055 og with that?
I would have thought you`d get close to that with just the 2 cans and nothing else.
Assuming you made it up to 22.5litres.?

Yep 23l gave it a good stir too. And thats at 36C before it cools for pitching.

What do you reckon it should read by calculations ?
If it looks way off may have to grab another sample.

If you hydrometer is calibrated at 20c, it's actually 1.060 adjusted for temp.

Prob. about 10 points higher, and finish around 1020.

forgot to check the OG again before pitching the yeast at 18C Oh well it will probably be a bit stronger than I thought initially. Took the rehydrated yeast about 24 hours to get going visibily just building up a head of foam now just hoping for no overflows.

You might need a blow-off tube with that one, it`ll be pretty lively with all those fermentables
