I really enjoy a Heffeweizen or two when I come home from work

but it seems to improvethe flavour when I drink my malty beers like ESB and bitters

has anyone else noticed this phenomenon

Or is it just me ?

I'm not sure about one or two... but everything tastes awesome after about 5 or 6 hefeweizens. :icon_cheers:

Well, in its native habitat, Hefeweizen (or as the Bavarians prefer, Weissbier) can be a breakfast beer (no joke -- those were the days!).

For later in the day, you might switch to a Helles or Dunkles, which are both malt-driven beers.

So it makes sense. Wheaty followed by malty, accentuating the maltiness of the latter.

Sounds like a natural order of life that should be followed.

Pumpy, you are tripping me out here!!!

Got home this evening, fired the barby up and thought "I'll have a wheat beer". Then when I had finished cooking tea I poured an ordinary bitter to have with the food. Boy, did the flavours jump out!! Bizarre. The bitter has 20g of First Gold late, which you wouldn't expect to have a dramatic effect, but the hop flavours really jumped out at me. I was wondering if it was the wheat beer before it that had made it appear more flavoursome and hoppy, and then I logged onto AHB to see this thread!

Actually drinking a hefeweizen first as my IIPA cools. I'll let you know

Geoffi- a Weisse bier followd by a Dunkleweizen may be the way to go , for Breakfast will give it a go

Screwy ,- I am not alone on this planet .

AdamT -The Heffe must be the Ultimate palate cleanser

TD- Glad I have touched a nerve and it was Rosco's First Gold bitter that I first noticed the difference !!

Old Bug- ,It was yours Xmas case bottle that got me started on the Heffe now I cant stop .

Pumpy :)

Or was it a different dear you were planning on having early in the morning. B)

(no joke -- those were the days!)

WERE the days Pumpy?

That's why Schofferhofer glasses are 500ml instead of 1L (breakfast sized) ;)

Sour dough rye, speck, pickled chilli and eggs anyway you like with a big glass of hefe. Brilliant way to start the day. Only person I've heard of do a better breakfast was the late Hunter S. Thompson :D

I've come to the conclusion that it's the wheat tartness that really throws your malt senses off.

Actually, I've been known to have a coopers vintage for breakfast on occasions.

still piss weak compared to HST, sorry Adam. The correct answer was fruit in Cointraeu and gin, cocaine, hash and a look at the news. Makes an oxidised CV look a bit pre-school.

But I'm not going to kill myself.

I'll never look at Just Right in the same way again... ever... never B)

Another vote for the "Pump Theory" at very worst it's an excuse for another beer.
