If you have ever thought what a waste at the bottom of the kettle ,worry no longer . :(

When you have poured off your wort in the fermenter .

Pour all the trub you have left into a two litre or three litre Tupperware jug ,clip the top on and put it in the fridge ovenight .

In the morning if you it will be seperated nicely and an extra litre and half wort can be poure into your fermenter .

the straight sided jugs are excellent as they create less turbulance when you pour the clear wort off .

call me mean but hey that is another couple of pints I have saved .

Pumpy :)

Good idea pumpy,
You could also feeze it and use it fir your starter next time. Boil first thoug is a good idea.

cheers

Darren

Never thought of freezing it for a starter Darren ,

thats a great idea for my big beers and lagers.

Pumpy :)

Or you can be lazy like me and just pump the whole lot into the fermenter and rack after a week or so. :D

Hey Razz ,I like it "The Razz all trub method" !!!

sounds a good idea does it work ,

I bet it does there have been a lot of myths dispelled recently .

I think one of the reasons why is I use hop pellets in a Ross sock. So the only trub into the fermenter is from malt. When I do the first racking there is little to no hop debris versus yeast sediment. Did that make sense ? (sorry Ross, I hope I haven't started a new name. ) :D

Razz I reckon you are on to something , I like your logic , I use a Hop sock , you may well be right it may well be Ok to use the trub too , I am going to give it a try .

Ha ha thanks Tony for a credit .

Ross I will try that never thought of the hopsock .

I've actually lined a colander with paper towel and filtered the last lot of "stuff" through. You can only do about a litre at a go as the paper towel blocks up. The brew's that I've done this to have ended up around 2-5 lites more: Maybe I'm to finnicky with what goes into my fermenter!

Call me stingy - Steve

STEVE...
I think it was W.C.FIELDS ...Said you maybe ugly maam..Not Winny..
I have a coleander fitted into the stuff that you put over irrigation pipe (silt sock i think it is called)for straining...
Cheers

The HopSock is 250 micron Tony,

The 20 micron is best for straining your wort, you want a more open weave for hops - I tried several different grades, finer & courser, before settling on the one that gave the best performance.

I have it from several differnt sources that I was indeed Mr. Churchill who uttered that phrase.

Another of his was:

(From a disgruntled 'Lady") "If you were my husband I would give you poison!"

(Mr Churchill) "And Ma'am if you were my wife I would gladly take it!"

(Apparently the Stingy) :D

i use some synthetic hypo-alergenic cusion wool in a seive. I strain the whole contents of the kettle through it into the fermenter. also forms a big protien froth mass that can be scraped off. and it helps to aerate the wort.

Use a stainless cylindrical sieve here. You can get them from chef/kitchen shops about $25 fit nicely in the top of a fermenter, as the trub level rises there are always clear holes above for the wort to run through, nice quick way of getting rid of trub, ang getting more beer!.
