Hello fellow beerbrewers, :)

i just started to brew a new batch of wheat beer the other day and everything went fine so far.
The fermention startet about 2 days ago and as usuall i left the window open, but it got pretty cold last night.
This mornig there was no happy bubbleing in the pipe anymore :(

did the yeast get to cold and died?
is there anything i can do to save the beer? add new yeast?

cheers,
Ben

Let it go, should be fine.. Please dont worry about the pipe..

Hey Ben,

Don't Panic my friend! Your yeast has gotten a little cold and gone to sleep... maybe. BUT cold will not kill it as such.

Just bring up the temp again, to around 18-20c, if possible, and give your fermenter a swirl [No Splashing] just a gentle swirl and the little fella's should wake up and start munchin again!

BTW: Wheat yeast is quite the beast in my experience and can be done in a few days! What yeast did you use? WB06?

Did you take an OG reading? What is the current SG reading?

Airlock [Pipe] activity is nothing to go by, use your hydrometer!!

I hope this simple answer helps!

Cheers

The only way to save it is to drink it all now in one sitting and then ring a close relative.

Small joke

In reality, air lock activity means little (presence means fermentation but the opposite does not mean lack of).

Leave it for a week, test the gravity wiith a hydrometer and when it's stable over two or three days you can either leave it a bit longer or bottle it.

uff, thats good to hear :)

ill just let it sit there for a while then :)

i just though becouse it was very active yesterday, and the nothing today... i nearly craped by pants :p
(btw i used the American Wheat Yeast - Wyeast 1010. and the sg was 1069 when i started the thing.)

thanks very much eveyone
cheers,
ben
