I was at the Yatala CUB brewery in Queensland yesterday. Apart from the amazing fact that they produce 1 million bottles of beer per day, they are expanding the Crown range. They are now brewing a Crown Pilsner, silver label same bottle. The girl mentioned the hop used, buggered if I can remember it though  started with W, but wasn't Wertemburger (sp?). She mentioned they have bred it themselves purely for this beer, but because of a low crop yield this year only a limited amount of beer has been made and is only available from the CUB shop there at Yatala, $17 for a 6 pack. They expect it to hit the shelves later this year with a fresh crop of hops coming on where ever they are growing it.

Bit of useless trivia for you all this morning :)

Cheers.

did you taste it Duff...?
CUB, cultivating their OWN hops to make a beer just doesnt seem to line up does it.!?

interesting useless info all the same :p

If its the Crown Pilsner i tried a couple of weeks back, then it is absolute CRAP.....never ever again will i drink it......maybe i should have tried it before drinking Coopers pale Ale...

I would sooner suck on 5 day old hiking socks that are wet.

They call it Wenceslas and is the aussie grown version of Saaz as far as i know.

Doesn't seem like they actually made a pilsner from the reviews i've read - not enough hops!
