Hi just started my first virgin brew.
Im in qld and used 2litres of boiling water . How do I cool the wort down quickly so i can add my yeast..
current temp 30c.
coopers kit std coopers sugar and yeast
 
You could pop it in the bath or laundry tub with a mixture of water and ice (and possibly salt).

A trip to the service station would quickly yield a bag of ice.

Adding salt to the mixture may keep the mixture cooler for longer.

Even straight water in the laundry tub should lower the temperature a bit.

yeah. bag of ice in the laundry sink with water.
 
yep done dropped 25 c
will wait another 5min then add my yeast

Hi Hotboost and welcome.

I'm in QLD too and if your in the SE pocket the temp is low for a change. Try and keep it fermenting at about 20 degrees too. Makes a much better beer.

Hey hotboost,

As InCider said try and keep the temp below 20C. This will be more difficult once QLD weather returns to normal (+30C YAY <_< ) so you may like to look into a temp controlled fridge once the hobby turns into an obsession :D

Your already on the right path, correct fermentation temp is halfway there to great beer.

A hint for next time,
Dissolve your sugars in water up to the boil, add hops etc, then turn off the stove and add your tins and do not put back on the heat. The tins will dissolve no problems without going back on the heat. You should find that you will then have a brew ready at 24-26 odd deg.

The contents of the tin do not need to be boiled, you will only make a what should be light beer darker by boiling the contents of the tin. Then you can make a larger that looks like the one on the tin, nice and light in colour.

Two other good tips that will improve your beers dramatically
1 Try to use Malt as a sugar, coopers brew enhancer 2 has more malt in it and less sucrose than brew enhancer 1 if you are only going to go to a super market. The more malt like sugars you use the less sour your beers will be. Go to a home brew shop if you can and ask them what bag of goodies they suggest for the type of brew you are making.
2 The yeast strain is as important if not more than the sugar. One again a trip to your home brew shop will see you right. Ask them for advice.

Just the two things above along with a sterile situation and a lower temp as the other guys suggested can turn a "home brew" in to what could be "man this beer is awesome".
It may cost you $10-$13 more but it is worth every cent, especially when your mates don't turn their noses up at it.

Hi Hotboost,

If you are lucky enough to have a brew fridge, half fill your clean fermenter with water a day or 2 before brew day and put it in the fridge. Come brew day you will have 10-15L of water at 5 or so degrees, tip in your boiled mix and top up with 'ambient temp' water.

I did this for my last brew and was instantly about 20 degrees, no waiting around for it to cool down and attract nasties.

when iwas doing kits i had about 6-8 litres of water in bottles in the fridge.
Mix up the goo, fill with tap water to about 15 litres then pour in the cooled bottled water out of the fridge.
After a brew or two Youll get used to knowing how many litres of cold water to add in order to get the temperature spot on. .
