Beersmith Setting It Up

I am currently trying to set-up my beersmith programme. I am still a novice when it comes to AG (but look out when I get a few more under my belt) I have set-up my Equipment profile and now I am looking at the ingredients section. I want to know if the SRM means the same as EBC and if so can the programme be changed to show EBC instead? I want to actually put my own grains into this list so I know exactly what I am using.If the SRM can not be changed to EBC, what is the formula to convert it if there is one.

Does any of this make sense :unsure:

Gday,

Go to Tools -> Options -> Units tab and then change your colour (color) units to EBC from SRM (Lovibond) and you're away.

I dont have beersmith on this pc... but in the options menu, find the units option, you can change all units there. Lovibond units are the same as SRM I believe.

One more question but in two parts.The potential SG and Max in Batch does one have to enter in their own values and if so how is that worked out <_<

Potential SG is entered from stats provided by maltsters for their products. Max in batch: ie: Crystal, you wouldn't use 100% but I'm unsure where one gets a reference figure from.

I found it a good idea to go to this link and get the updated information (provided by Dave aka bigfridge) on the malts most of us would be using in Aus.

It also has a bit of info when you go into the details (by double clicking on the malt once added or edit when adding) regarding max in batches etc. For instance with crystal it has "Use 5% to 10% for improved colour aroma.".

Basically spot on the money.How or is it possible to import the specs straight into the Grains,Extracts and Sugar section without doing it seperately??

Digging up my old post here. Makes life easier for me down the track.


I am currently putting together a recipe and have found that there are no Beersmith Grain Extensions for the Bairds grain. Maybe I am overlooking something.what have others found.

No that's about right. There was a discussion on this recently. Some people posted here and on beersmith but I don't believe anyone has had any joy on Baird malt specs...

The beersmith site gives instructions on how to import files such as the Thomas Fawcett grains etc.

After going through beersmith it seems the only way I can identify Bairds is by actually changing the description when I add grain. For instance pick JW crystal and before you OK it change the details so it appears as you want it. You also need some EBC specs as well. I will have to look at the grain database on beersmith to see if I can permanently add it by manual entry.

You can enter them by clicking on Grains and Extracts and creating a new entry. Alternatively highlight a grain you know is similar and copy and paste it, then edit the new one.
If you were to enter all the Bairds ones then you could export it (I can't say how to do this off the top of my head) as a .bsm file called BairdsMalts.bsm, for example.

If you do enter all the Bairds malts by yourself then I will definitely find out how to export it for you

What's the deal with Beersmith and Bairds malts? Does anyone have a bsm file they'd like to share? I've searched around and had no luck.

Beertools Pro has the malts, maybe there's a way to export?
