Just had a few mega-swill mates around to sample my SmashBack Ale which i brewed for them!
WINNER!! They loved it!, and to be honest, its a Sh!t hot Mega Swill style!
Next time I'll use a lager yeast so it finishes a bit crisp and drier
Beer Flavored water as requested by the Bogan Boys.
ok, 27L Brew!! (about 3 cartons)
1 can of Coopers Lager
1kg of Dex
500g LDME
10g Cascade
150ml Safale US05 left over from previous CPA
boil 400g LDME and 10g of Cascade in 4L water for 5-10 min
Flameout, add the rest of ingredients to dissolve.
into fermenter and top up to 27L
pitch yeast @ 18deg
Ferment @ 15deg for 14 days and rack to secondary
Ferment @ 15deg for a further 14 days or until full attenuation is complete
add fining's and Cold chill for 2-3 days at 5deg.
bring back up to 20deg for 12-24 hours just to clean up anything the yeast has left behind.
Rack onto 153g Dex and bottle as per normal.
Bottle condition for at least 3 weeks at ambient temps.
You'll have to keep an I on the brew through the fermentation as the yeast tends to want to nod off at this temp.
I had to swirl the fermenter a few times during the final 2 weeks to keep it awake and lifted it to 20deg for the last 2 days to make sure it had fully attenuated.
Don't have my brew book on hand but pretty sure OG 1038 and FG 1008
works out to about 5% Alc in the bottle.
Probably the best Kit brew I have made in regards to a clean non-twangy taste and the lads said it was like TED but better!
The only complaint I had was that it should be a bit dryer and crisper.
Next time it'll be a Saflager
It's the first beer I have made that kept the lads coming back.
They really enjoyed it.....
While I enjoyed an extract version of the Good Doctors Golden Ale :icon_drool2:
