Since making my collared freezer kegerator and fitting the new Perlicks to it I have big trouble removing the beer QD from the keg post after it has been attached for a few days. (Yes it is on the beer post and not the gas) I've lubed up the post and the inside of the QD but it takes a mighty effort to pull it off after a period of days. It even sometimes takes a sliver of 'o' ring with it when it disconnects. Probably due to some sugar residue sticking to the post and hardening as it travels from the keg post into the QD but I fear that my QD's are not going to last long given all the grunt it takes to get them off.

Any ideas? What do you do?

Cheers, Hoges.

Sounds like a bit of build up in the QD , stopping the balls rolling back freely ...

What lube are you using. I assume it may be drying out.

Don't think so as I can lift the outside cover (fingers each side and thumb on top) and also turn the cover but it's the inside point of contact that is sticking to the post.

It's the food grade keg lube from Ross. Does not appear to be drying out. Still very lubricative.

mmm, not sure. I use ky jelly and havn't had issues. It's good at lubricating all hard things

I dunk mine in a cup of boiled hot water and shake it around a bit.......the disconnect that is

:)

Do you pull apart and clean you QD's regularly?

EDIT: Also are you sure you're connecting to a beer post?

have a spray bottle of starsan on hand, works for me.

1. Yes I do clean then regularly.

2. Read the first line of my post.

Might give your 'hard thing' lubricator a run Kev.

Have the same problem Hoges and disappointed no solution has come forth so far. Bump this later for the night crowd and see what we get.

I blamed the keg posts and are having all poppets overhauled over next few weeks. How do your poppets look ? Is it only one keg or all your kegs (Is it the QDs or the kegs problem ?)

Just because it's a post connected to the beer out side of the keg, doesn't mean it's a beer post. Just thought it's worth double checking that it's actually a beer post and not a gas post connected where the beer post should be. This has happened to me before.

Add me to the list of those seeking an answer to this problem, which for me only happens on some kegs, but I've never tried to determine which ones. I have always felt that the O rings were swollen because they behave exactly the same way as they did in my factory days when solvents would expand the O rings to double their size. I'll dash off now and drop a couple into some strong alchohol and see what happens over the course of the day.

This was also my first thought, until i re-read the original post
Since making my collared freezer kegerator and fitting the new Perlicks to it I have big trouble

So that should rule the post it self at fault.

Just an idea - if the O ring is getting damaged, wont that let a small amount of beer leak past - drying in the QD/small balls that click in.

I assume each time its getting worse and worse as the O ring is further damaged ( that said the lube should protect it from anything sticking to it....)

good luck

Thanks for the reminder Mark - but for those who don't know - the gas post has a notch (or all mine do) where the spanner goes and the beer post does not.

Cheers, Hoges.

Some of mine get like this, I find I have to lift the outside ring while pushing the diconnect down and twisting to free it up, then it lifts off ok.

That does bring up one possibility Gout - that is that I found that the 'o' rings for garden hose fittings did fit the beer posts. I have used these sometimes. Maybe they are the problem. But I'm getting the sticking on all posts and have only used those rings occasionally - so it is not really probable.

Cheers, Hoges.

Yeah my gas posts have notches, or some of them can't be opened with e regular spanner, but instead need some fruity tool I do not actually own.
