Sent my local member an email yesterday with a copy of the proposal to reduce taxes and excise. Had a response this morning to say he will send a letter to the Treasurer supporting the proposal, so fingers crossed we get a good hearing. It can only help things if more people contact their local member with a brief email to support this <_< Who knows what promises they will make in the lead up to the election, but we can only try! :)

I sent my local member a letter a couple weeks ago which he is apparently addressing.

I'd recommend sending an actual letter rather than an email, you're more likely to get a response, and they're more likely to follow it up.

/start unrelated ramble

I was out at tea last night and I decided to buy a longie of CSA cause the venue was BYO

Anyway they had corona's on "special" for $50  normally $65

I haven't purchased a case of beer for so long that I'd forgoten how expensive crappy beer was.

Even SWMBO commented that homebrewing is the way to go B)

Cheers

Please forgive the stupid question, but how many bottles/cans do you get for that price? The reason I ask is that in some places a case = 12 beer, while in others a case = 24.

Here, a case is 12, while a 'flat' is 24.

Case/slab = 24. A dozen bottles is a half case/slab. Then we have sixpacks which is totally self explanatory.

"Boutique" local beers are sometimes more expensive than imports here! Eg. Pilsner Urquell can be had for about $40 a case, whereas James Squire Pilsner (not a very good knockoff) is $50 usually...

But as for people buying Corona for $50 a case, that's their own fault. It doesn't even get marketed THAT much in comparison to the usual mega brands.

Thanks for clearing that up DJR. Around here, the mega swill works out to about $1.20/bottle (355 ml). Microbrewery offerings vary from about $1.70 - $2/bottle, while imports can be anywhere from $2 - $4/bottle depending on the brand and the liquor store.

24 Pilsner Urquell for $40 is a steal compared to what they're worth here - about $2.50/bottle, if not more. The comparison is quite equal too, since the Australian and Canadian dollars are pretty much at par right now.

Just a quick canadian related question

is moosehead considered megaswill in canada

This canadian I know here drives 'about' 1.5 hours to buy it

I tried some and wasn't very impressed - he raves and raves 'about' it

Cheers

About 20 years ago it was considered to be an 'exotic' import from the maritimes here on the prairies. My cousin married a guy from Nova Scotia and he told me that the locals back home drank moosehead if they were constipated [seriously].

I'm not sure who owns moosehead now, but I think it's Labatt or Molson. It's the same crap as canadian, blue, old vienna, etc., just a different label. Megaswill.

6 Pack of LCPA just went up by a dollar overnight at the Cooge Bay Hotel

Any news from the budget about the excise refunds for small breweries? I'm looking and have not found a thing...

Can't see anything in there either. All I found was a piece saying we will be submitting exise returns monthly instead of weekly from Jan 1

Pedro,

Is this likely to be cost or time saver for you? Outwardly it would appear to be of some help but I have no idea how much time your paperwork takes up.

Wally

It will free up a few hours of time as you have to fill in the paperwork, fax it off, record the details when the approval comes back etc etc. The biggest hassle is it has to be done every monday, where monthly we won't have to do it on a specific day, hopefully a specific week.

It must reduce the load on the ATO as well due to the number of places submitting these thing weekly.

Cheers
Pedro
