Just had to chuck about 10 kg of grain that were full of little grain mites, for want of a better word. Had a sack with around 5kg of Maris Otter that had those little mites tucking into and I had a bunch of smaller bags of various grains that I reckon more than likely had those fuckers in. Not sure at which point they made their way into my grain because they were all good before they went into my boxes to be shipped over this way.

Luckily my share of the Sydney bulk buy was very kindly delivered today so I've got another 90kg of grain to make up for it. And I've got a bunch of vacuum packed speciality grains that are all fine but it made me choke throwing all that grain away

Spewin'. Seeing as this thread will descend I to storage advice, I'm gonna jump the gun and suggest 60l Willow plastic bins that a 25kg bag fits into perfectly. I use Aussie made clear storage boxes with the blue snap handles on them from Bunnings for the loose grains. Success so far.
Should have brewed and saw if the proteins from the mites contributed to head retention. It might have been a mite-ey fine ale.

Yeah, I had the grain in little 15L fermenters up in Darwin but somehow between being boxed up (not in the fermenter, just in the bag) and being shipped in Sydney and actually arriving in Sydney, the feckers got in. I've got a bunch of plastic "Maxipail" buckets now for my grain so have been filling those up. Wish I'd thought about a bigger bin, those willow bins are about the same price as the maxipail ones and much bigger. Ah well, perhaps I'll grab a couple for my 25kg bags of Maris Otter and Pilsner malts.
