is it possible to be an alcoholic as long as one has more than 99,9% blood in hes alcohol?

Id say NO...NO...No... thats much too much blood for that.

I used too come close when I was drinking 40-50 schooners a week, but now I've cut back and am probably drinking under a carton a week these days and big binges are rare.

Getting told you have an inflamed liver(which I was assured was non alcohol related by my Dr.) will do that to you.

Since I've cut back dont feel an better or worse.

You were drinking 40-50 beers a week and your doctor told you your liver condition was not alcohol related? LOL. Either you are extremely unlucky or you lied to your doctor about your consumption.

I at least know why my liver is flaky.

I'd answer "probably" to the thread title, however I don't think I'd need therapy to stop drinking. I can stop for a week to take a course of antibiotics or my usual February off the booze (might move that to March in 08, Feb is still a good weizen brewing time). I think the drinking even when it is dangerous to your health is definitely a qualifying term. I'm happy to report I have the ability to have a break when I need one.

i lived in belgium for a number of years where the preferred term is alcoholist. i much prefer considering myself as a specialist in alcohol.
Thats GOLD

Now this is all a bit serious. When I asked "Are u an alcoholic" I did not want any confessions. I understand that drinking is no problem for all on this site.........we drink...get drunk...fall down... NO PROBLEM! ;)

Yes, it means you're not trying hard enough :) PUT SOME BACK INTO IT

I don't have to drink to fall down, but then again MS will do that to you. Probability of falling down gets closer to 1 when drinking, so I save that for a couple of nights a week and do it somewhere nice and soft.

Yes it is....make stronger beer :beerbang:

As a retired lawyer, and without prejudice, and without admissions, I require your submission, supported with appropriate precedent cases, on your definition of the word 'alcoholic'.
Without that submission, with respect, none of us are able to definitively put our analysis and responses, and we would only be putting unsupported and unreasoned suppositions.
Having said all that, I think I'll have another beer.

I have thought previously, that we should have a sticky thread with current health guidelines for the consuption of alcohol, just so that anyone using or visiting the site can get a quick inflection of their habits.
80% of all alcohol sold is consumed in excess to current guidelines.
I would hazard a guess that 80-90% of homebrew is consumed in excess of guidelines.
40 -50 schooners a week for an educated person, is most concerning.

 wrong thread.....that should be in jokes/humour ;)

For Men:
No more than 4 Standard Drinks a day on average and no more than 6 Standard Drinks on any one day. One or two alcohol-free days per week.

Great, I only have one per night

Would this count as one drink or 5 PostModern?

I told him all of this and that it wasnt unusual for me to binge drink and most of my beers are around 6% but he was adamant that it was due to some illness's that I had.(Which I wont be listing) but yeah he pumped me full of antibiotics and I am taking 5 different tablets of various vitamins and nutrapath remedies and apparently this will fix me up.

Getting tested again in a month, too make sure its all sorted so yeah.

I asked if I should stopped drinking, and he said half what I've been drinking but besides that no drama's besides my other illness's.

I was gobsmacked myself I always thought that bad liver always meant too much piss but yep, I'll trust the GP over my educated guess's anyday.

Well you GP certinaly does not practice modern evidence based medicine, if your liver gives out, you will be able to take them to the cleaners over that advice!

Seriously If you have any interest in limiting the damage to the liver in any infected, inflamed or cirrhotic state, you should cease drinking until resolution of the condition, or a reurn to its best possible funtion.

For gods sake if a professional of any type you are consulting says something that doesnt make sense, common or otherswise, think twice before accepting it.

40-50 schoons a week? if that includes weekends, that's not too hard to do
considering you'd drink more than 6 on friday and saturday night easily.
you're talking SA mid sized glass eh? (my lecturer would smack my fingers now for forgetting the ml size)
a mate of mine used to drink a dozen 375ml stubbies every weeknight.

I do that a week and dont get tipsy

oh well i alreadyt made my admition

cheers

Alco? I'd hope so. After all the effort that has gone into it for us all!

If I worked on cars I'd be a petrolhead

If I worked on computers I'd be a propellerhead

If I worked the street I'd be be giving it.

I enjoy the craft of brewing and drinking beer. I must be a pisshead. :p

InCider.
