I'm not a big US hop fan, but that said, I seem to brew and drink a lot of Amarillo and Cascade hopped beers with US-56 <_< Anyway, I've just tasted the (fully fermented) starter of an American Brown batch. (Just about to pitch the starter into 20 litres of the stuff if I can keep myself from drinking the whole thing ;)).

39.6% Bartett Burston Lager Malt
39.6% Light Munich
9.9% Wheat
5.9% Dark Crystal

1% Chocolate Malt

25g Northern Brewer 6.8%AA 60mins 26.8IBU
10g Willamette 5%AA 60mins 7.9IBU
8g Cascade 5.75%AA 20mins 2.4IBU
8g Amarillo 9.5%AA 20mins 4.0IBU
15g Amarillo 9.5%AA 5mins 3.7IBU

Sinlge infusion mash 65C 60 mins
OG 1.044
Wyeast 1335 English Ale II

The starter (same wort) tastes bloody lovely.

Agreed, lovely style. Nice-looking recipe too.

Cheers Kai. I went off yours and Doc's threads from last year, combined with the specialty malts I had in my bucket, and upped the Munich, coz I just love Munich. Can't put too Munich in a recipe, I reckon :)

btw, this was the first AG I've run thru my system, so my efficiency was waaaay down. Expected 1.060 in 20 litres, hit 1.044 in 18. I backed off the 60 minute addition as a result. The second batch batch came out much closer to target.
