This may be akin to trying to start a Mexican wave but...

C'mon you lot - now you have your fancy new logo.

I emailed one of the glass places who does etching - in a nutshell the costs are pretty reasonable

Price includes glass and 7cm2 etch (You can have a larger logo at 15c per
1cm2) - this is for a Chopes Unies - (Warrens Favorite - plenty of other styles out there.)

Unit Price ea + GST
100 $5.20
500 $4.90
1000 $4.50
2000 $4.00

I know logistically it would be tough - but not impossible - and i'm not volunteering cos i'm too busy.

Why dont we choose 3 styles - simplify the logo to make it fit 7cm2 and get some unique glasses in time for Xmas

All those in favour raise their right hand and <running for cover>

Ok sounds good. I'll be in for 6 if this happens.
Nonic or some type of Mug style, 500ml or over!

Cheers
DK

Way for it to happen would be for one or more of the retailers to take it on. Question is whether you can pick a single glass style that would suit most and what folks are willing to pay (they need a bit of mark up). Shipping might be an issue, but Ross and G&G get plenty of over the counter business and I'm sue we have a few other retailers that do as well...

I believe Dane recently threatened banisnment for anyone who resurected this subject RM :D

My understanding was that the site was going to have its own brand store, once the logo's etc were sorted out, with money raised going to the site :) . Not sure if this is still the case; maybe Dane will elaborate.

cheers Ross

Pretty much all the places I've looked into have a 144 unit minimum order quantity for the custom products. So any purchases would have to be in 144 lots. If we're looking t 2 different styles on glasses then thats 288 minimum + the initial print/setup costs.

There's also a sample cost to make sure everything looks ok before running through the whole 12 dozen.

The other problem once I've ordered them is distribution. While I haven't looked into how the bulk glassless arrive at my place (I imagine loosely packed in 6 packs?) unless I limit orders to lots of 6 (which is probably the best thing to do) there is going to be a bit of work in repackaging these glasses, making sure they can mak the journey safely, not to mention the additional cost of sending them.

Obviously shipping would be on top of the purchase price, but it's something to consider. Easiest thing to do would probably be have sate based shipping - and this could be built into the online order form. There is also the returns/breakage side of the process.

Finally the logo probably has to be turned into a single colour line image, as much of the detail would be lost on most of the printing/etching methods. Printing in more than 1 colour adds about 60c to each glass and each colour comes with an initial $90 setup cost.

Add the end of the day, the logo needs to be made into an line version for it to look good on the glasses. The initial cost to order the glasses is going to be a couple of grand and then once I have the glasses stored at home I have to pack and ship them safely across Australia.

I'd really love to see this happen but it's not just as simple as placing and order and it's done.

Unfortunately time isn't something I have a lot of at the moment, but I do realise that lots of people want them, but I also want them to look good, be at a reasonable price and not arrive in a million pieces.

One day.

In saying all of that - we do have some things in the works so it's not a dead subject.

Maybe you need to rope in someone else to run the retail bit of the site.
Quite apart from setting up the online shop!
You need a WAHM or someone retired who is time rich.
And now, I am not volunteering to be a WAHM since I work in an office. :)
Just a suggestion. Prolly already occured to you.

So - I take it you guys did not like my suggestion of Stainless Steel Jacketed beer mugs for around 19.50 ea with laser etching or engraving of the AHB logo on.

Will keep your beer cold.

I'm interested if and when something does get off the ground {waiting patiently} :)

BTW what's a WAHM?

Cheers,

Edit - deleted reference to deleted post

Work at Home Mum closely related to a SAHM. :)

For instance, if you check out slingrings.com you'll find a mail order company started by a WAHM
which does nothing but send out aluminium rings for making baby slings. The owner employs
another WAHM to actually do the posting.
The downside is that mothers of young children tend to be lacking in sleep and they send mail for South
Australia to South Africa.

But you get the business model. A niche market served by people who have a small amount of time
to purchase wholesale and dispatch around the world in order to make "pin money" but not a living.

The maintainers of AHB have enough on their hand without taking on dispatching merchandise as well
but a WAHM would probably welcome a small bit of extra income.

Sounds like a ripper of an idea GMK.

I'd take one great steel/glass jobbie, but won't be ordering a dozen Chopes Unies.

I want to make drinking alone more special!

They sound good.. any pics?

I'd be interested..

I would be interested in a few glasses or possibly a steel one.

If an online store were to open up I would hope that there would be the possibility of the colour logo on some glasses.

Depending what might be on offer, I would probably be interested in some other merchandise as well.

I am sure there are other AHB'ers that would also be interested.

I wasnt suggesting Chopies Unies - just using the costs that I was sent as an example.

The Nonic pint glass is about 1/2 of the price of a chopies (2.42 per unit)

Anyway - I admit - it was an Alcohol influenced post - but apart from the logistics I was under the impression that the logo was the thing that was holding this up.

Dane - from what the chap at the Barware place told me - there is no mimimum quantity - the price gets cheaper the more that are ordered. He will do a 1 off -might cost a bit though.

You would have to but 3 wouldnt you Incider - one for your sister and Pat to drink from when she visits B)
