Hello Community,

some people I know, are going to visit Australia, around Melbourne.

They asked me if there are 5l party cans (of course filled with fine beers) available.

They own a little keg cooler, special made for party kegs and they wanna take it to Australia.

Some response is highly appreciated.

Thanks mates.

The Heineken ones are pretty easy to get. Have also seen Bitburger ones around. There are probably others but Heineken is the most popular

Kabooby :)

yeh heineken and bitburger are available (I drank a far whack of a mates 5Lkeg of bitburger on the weekend). You used to be able to gets becks pretty readily also but I havent seen them in years.

not sure where you'd get them from now. I suppose you could ask your local bottlo if they could order them in. The pubs I used to work for had a cataloge of stuff you could order, they just tend to order the standard stuff unless specificly asked.

Dan Murpheys (sp?) always seem to have one or 2 flavors of them whenever I venture in.

If they know Zwickel they may have sampled a few of his beers, I have a hunch they probably arent going to be very interested in Heineken, Bitburger and Becks...? Zwickel I would be getting your mates to check if they are allowed to take a keg cooler on a flight. Have a search on here for pubs to visit in Melbourne.....loads of places to wet their appetite.
Cheers
Steve

Edit......im sure there would be plenty of Melbourne brewers more than willing to take your friends on a pub crawl during their visit and let them taste Australia fine beers. I know I would.

Proberly don't really need to bring the cooler, but I guess if they are staying in hotels fridge space is generally quite small.
The ones here you get from the bottle shop are designed to drink straight from the keg in the fridge or whatever etc.

A mate brought a heinekin one the other week and I actually thought the beer was quite good, nice and fresh, well balanced and had some lovely soft pils malt character. It was much better than I had expected anyway.

I'am sure your mates will find some better alternatives to beer over here then they might be thinking, they will find you can't actually even buy fosters in Australian bottle shops

The ones I have seen are Heineken, Lowenbrau, Bitburger, DAB, Warsteiner, Konig Pilsner and Franziskaner.

I bought the Bitburger one (came with a free 500mL stein B) ), the beer was very average, kind of like a generic lager. It also sprayed in my face while I was trying to open it :(
I recall the Heineken one being great. Much better tap system (Bitburger relied on gravity to pour. This one had a tap on top, and some CO2 system inside it), which not only gives you a better pour, but won't spray in your face (if your nice to it).
The other one I have tried is the Warsteiner, free tastings at transport (plus the leftovers). Same minikeg style as Bitburger, the guy serving it got the same beer covered face as I did with the bitburger  . But the beer was a bit nicer than bitburger.

So all in all if you get any, get the heineken (or any of the other ones I mentioned, but havent tried.)

If only it was easy to bottle homebrew in these mini kegs :(

thank you all mates for the overwhelming responses, thats nice :D

I dont know for what reason they wanna carry a keg cooler, guess they are renting a home mobile, so they could put some beers on tap - not missing anything from home :p

Ill give them the link to this thread, so they may read by themselves all the advices written here.

thanks a lot mates.

Steve, thanks for your bloody nice post

Another thing is you'll be paying at least double the price (per volume) to have the novelty of a big can. Not worth it in my opinion.
