When To Split A Hop Rhizomes And How To Store Them.

Cool, that makes sense - Thanks for the advice Wolfy! :icon_cheers: I might feed them this week for the last time just to help them along. Cheers, rodders

When To Split A Hop Rhizomes And How To Store Them.

Cheers, for that - I've harvested all the cones from them and I've left them with about 6 foot of growth. So far they seem happy enough, though I'm concerned that they'll use up energy stores if I leave this much growth on them - so two more questions: - should I just cut off the whole bine or...

    First Biab

+1 for beersmith here - its really bought my brewing to a new level. I havent used brewmate but I'm sure its just as good, whatever you get used to really. Re. your BIAB, like seemax said if you keep it around 2.5L/kg you'll be right, what I usually do with BIAB is brew with a smaller volume...

    Converting A 50ltr Keg

Malko, Do you mean how to open it up to clean it out? There's a section on Removing a keg spear here on AHB if you want to do that (if it's CUB style that is). Did the brewery give you a reason why they aren't usable anymore? Otherwise you might need to speak to a publican who is experienced on...

When To Split A Hop Rhizomes And How To Store Them.

Hi all, Two questions really - 1. Can anyone tell me what the best time of the year is to split hop rhizomes in the east coast of Aussie? (I live in Sydney) I've asked the internetz for an answer to this, but haven't found anything. Lots on how to split them but nothing on when the optimal...

    Oldest Beer You've Had?

No way I can beat Scotty's one, but I cleaned out my old fridge and found a mates stout that had been forgotten in there for at least 2 years, cracked it immediately and it was sensational!

    Don Burke's New Brewery

That's how it all starts doesn't it. Well, here's to your dreams becoming reality - :icon_cheers: Its interesting to note that such undertakings always run into hurdles (referring to the dodgy tradesman), but I guess it makes it all the more sweeter in the end. Oh, and Kudos on how you've...

    Don Burke's New Brewery

Don Burke - That has to be one of the nicest rigs I've ever seen - well done, glad to hear that you've got no regrets with it and that its working well. One question - did you by any chance use some pre-made plans for construction or did you just dream it all up yourself? I'm curious cause...

Lord Nelson Three Sheets Pale Ale Ag Recipe Request

Definitely keen to hear a recipe aswell - very solid brew that.

What Has Or What Is Stopping You From Going All Grain?

+1 also, what helped me over the line were a heap of useful YouTube vids; but besides this being seriously time poor was (and still is) another factor. You thinking of starting a basic brew course proudscum? I reckon you'd get a lot of takers mate.

    Biab Voile (bag) Poll

HA! Tis' true! OK OK - so I'll shut up and just use it! Peer pressure is a powerful force... Truth be told I couldn't find the stuff and have been happily brewing with cotton muslin without any side effects. Beer me good want more of - I suppose the important thing is that you're brewing...

    Biab Voile (bag) Poll

Hi all, Seeing that the recommended equipment for BIABing is Swiss Voile - and its often recommended to get it from Spotlight, I asked Spotlight what their Swiss Voile was made out of so as to guage melting points etc. Well they came back with a recommendation that their voile should not be...

A Question For Biab Gurus Out There...

Yar tis' true - though for some reason the BIAB legends recommend staying away from it. I put this question to Spotlight about swiss voile (in regard to what Polyester it is and its food safety) - I'll post their reply.

Beer Battle Might Have Helped Me Vote!

Don't be too hasty to applaud Gillard - apparently she called a schooner a "stout" - so she probably wanted a schooner of "beer" but ended up with the dark stuff!! Did you see her sipping at it too? A real drinker doesn't sip like that... But Abbott - shandy! thats just wrong...

A Question For Biab Gurus Out There...

Thanks for the suggestion reviled - I already use cotton muslin for BIAB and it works a treat. I want to give swiss voile a try though but want a bit more info on its food safety.

A Question For Biab Gurus Out There...

Thanks thirsty - after a little bit of research I found that there are several "versions" of Polyester - at least 10 if not more. From what I've seen PET type polyester is the only food grade version there is, so the tag "100% polyester" might not necessarily mean 100% PET. ED: Nick's reply...

    Melted Brew Belt

Mmmm... love that skunky feeling of light struck beer. Maybe if you put a shade or something to stop the light but still get the heat? Might need something to circulate the heat around though, a computer fan maybe?

Move To All Grain For Thirty Bucks

Hey Pat, I don't understand how Muslin can impart off flavours, haven't chefs (especially very anal ones regarding flavour - my brother in law being one of them) been using them for hundreds of years without issues? I've brewed many BIAB's with muslin and had no issues at all, maybe you need to...

A Question For Biab Gurus Out There...

Interesting - according to wikipedia PET melting point is about 280C but maybe the plastic itself just becomes more flexible at boiling (just guessing)? Husky - have you noticed any weird smells (I take it you havent tasted the water ;) )
