    Temperamental disconnects

Thanks for the help everyone, I've put in an order for a pair of genuine disconnects. If that solves it I'll replace the rest and return the KK ones. Can't believe how much of a hassle this has been.

    Temperamental disconnects

I'm having problems with my disconnects intermittently leaking when connected to my posts. It seems to be a pretty common problem but I've tried everything I can think of to fix them. Basically they're leaking between the disconnect collar and the disconnect body. Having the disconnect oriented...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

What was the story with bringing it back to aus? Did they simply package it carefully then put it in their check-in luggage? Declare?

    How Much Water In Boil

You'll get a higher hop utilisation if the gravity of your boil is lower. So more water or less malt extract in your boil = more bitterness. Whether or not you want this is up to you. Not sure about other flavours that might be affected.

    Particularly Lively (volcanic) Brew

I'm pretty sure! I live in Surrey Hills so Oakleigh brewcraft is roughly 12 km, as is Heidelberg, Brewers Den from memory is around 16km, G&G is even further. Are there any homebrew stores closer? It'd make things a lot easier. That'd explain the vigorous fermentation then... I thought it was...

    Particularly Lively (volcanic) Brew

Its at a constant 18-20deg in a fridge. I would add more hops but the last of my supply went into this brew. And a 12km drive to the nearest LHBS seems like overkill just for a pack of hops ;)

    Particularly Lively (volcanic) Brew

So, my latest brew was bubbling along fine as of last night (1 day into primary). This morning when I checked on it, the airlock lid has blown off, krausen is pretty massive, and there's hops all over the fermenter and the airlock. I cleaned out the airlock (dried hops is not easy to get out of...

    Anyone Made Alcoholic Creme Soda?

Spirytus Rektyfikowany (rectified spirit) is available from Dan Murphy's for around $50 a 500ml bottle. Its 95%. Good for making flavoured vodka at home (limonaya anyone?).

    Hoegaarden Grand Cru

I'm not exactly sure what's in Grand Cru but that distinct taste could be wheat? By the way, I heard that InBev have stopped making this? Anyone know if this is true? Disappointing if so.

    Hoegaarden Grand Cru

Regular Hoegaarden as in the wit? If so they're completely different styles.... Also I agree with those who reckon the Grand Cru is loads better. Absolutely amazing stuff. The Forbidden Fruit is pretty decent too.

    Stalled Stout At 1030?

Cheers, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.

    Stalled Stout At 1030?

Ok, I gave it a stir on the 25th, SG is now ~1028 - not much of a drop really (for 6 days). Tested the hydrometer in water at 20deg, was pretty much spot on 1.000. Have been giving it a spin in the sample to make sure there's no bubbles on it... Any idea whats going on here?

    Stalled Stout At 1030?

Hey all, The yeast in a stout I'm brewing at the moment seem to have given up. 13th day after pitching the yeast I got a gravity reading of 1030, just took another (16th day) and got the same. 1.8Kg Munton's Mountmellick Dublin Stout Extract 1.5kg Black Rock Dark liquid malt extract 500g Corn...

    High Og

Yeah I was spinning the hydrometer, it's probably just as you say Adam - I'm not sure if the hopped extract was fully mixed in. Is it OK to chuck liquid extract in when boiling hops up, to make sure it mixes in well?

    High Og

So, last night I whipped up another brew: 1.7kg Coopers Draught Extract 1.5kg light liquid malt extract 20g Cascade pellets (will add 10-15g Chinook a couple of days in) Made up to 22 litres. Added safale yeast once it had cooled down and took an SG reading of... 1.078. That seemed a bit crazy...
