    Summit

Don't be afraid of this hop. It is really quite nice, and as I found out, quite forgiving. Its a bit of a story.... I was planning to back to back beers, both 25 litres. One 10 minute Summit Pisener, and a Bluetongue Lager. I had planned to use one 50g addition of Summit at 10 minutes. The wort...

    Warrior

Ok, so like everyone else, I got some of this hop to see what it was like as a bittering hop. Can't recall what I made, but it was a very clean, neutral bittering hop. The thing that struck me though, was when I opened the hop packet, the aroma was fantastic. I thought to myself, this must make...

    My swingtops are going flat

When I bottle, I do so almost exclusively with Grolsch bottles and never have a problem. I was given a box of brown swing tops from a HBS and 90% of them produced flat beer. What I found to be the problem was the brown swing tops had a plastic cap which is moulded in two parts and there is a...

    Summit

I've used the 2012 twice now. Lovely hop. Absolutely no onion or garlic. I think you just need a steady hand. I did a simple 25 litre pilsener and it was fantastic. Bittered 60 mins with 10g, 15g at 15 mins, and 15g at 1 min. Crisp summer sipper.

10 Minuute IPA - Quick question.

Yeah, I'm doing AG. I intuitively thought 60 minutes, but I was telling a AG mate about the process and told him I was doing a 60 minute boil, and he asked why? I didn't have an answer.

10 Minuute IPA - Quick question.

This brewing method sounds interesting and I want to give it a go. I'm thinking of a Columbus IPA with about 150g at 10 minutes, which shold give me about 60 IBU's. The question; do I still boil for an hour, or do you boil for less? Those that do extract brews often boil less than an hour. What...

    Meantime Ipa

I made this. It's close, but no cigar. Not withstanding, it is one of the best tasting beers I have made. Its a mouthfull of flavour and hides it alchohol (7.27%) well. Meantime IPA[/b] (English IPA) Original Gravity (OG): 1.074 (P): 18.0 Colour (SRM): 8.9 (EBC): 17.5 Bitterness...

    New Western Sydney Brewery

Went there last week for lunch. Food was great. Five craft beers on tap. Four regulars (pale ale, dark lager, mid strength, and Cerveza) plus a guest Belgium. Tried them all. All nice. Inspired me to have a crack at the pale ale, a Galaxy inspied barley/wheat beer, with late hopping.

    Losses To Trub, Advice Needed.

One Whirfloc tablet for a 20L batch is way too much. Try half a tablet. More is not better for kettle finings.

Why Won't My Wheat Beers Hold A Head?

OK, so now I'm really confused. I've just read this thread, and John Palmer. 4* and John Palmer seem to agree, If useing modifided malts, a protein rest is not required. In fact if you do one, it may reduce head retention. I used 50/50 malted JW wheat and barley. So if a protein rest was not...

Why Won't My Wheat Beers Hold A Head?

Thanks citymorgue2. I thought something like that might be the issue. Can someone out there explain to me what the protien rest is doing and why/how it effect head retention. Just so I can understand the science.

Why Won't My Wheat Beers Hold A Head?

I don't know what is happening here, but my wheat beers will not hold a head. They pour from the tap with a nice head, but within a minute or two, nothing. Also no tide marks left on the glass. A lot of people add wheat to their beer to aid head retention. It doesn't seem to help my wheaties...

    Wtb Immersion Chiller (sydney)

Damian, Had exactly the same requirement a couple of weeks ago. Went and saw Pat at Absolute Home Brew at St Marys. He didn't have one is stock, so he knocked one up on the spot. Took him about 15 minutes. Can't quite remember the cost (around $100), but cheaper than I could get the copper from...
