    Preparing for Oktoberfest

4 weeks later it has finally hit 1010 SG. That was a long ferment (even had 4 days sitting around 20 degrees because of that ******* Ita knocking out our power) Tasting pretty good in the fermenter. I am lowering it a couple degrees a day till i get to 0 now and then will transfer into a keg to...

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

Well 4 hours later the brewing is done and its in a cube in the bath tub with a few bags of ice to cool down. Few notes: Make sure to check the taps before brewing... My mashtun has a beerbelly falsy in it and worked fine the last time it was used (4 years ago) but the nuts had somehow come...

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

Its hard to stay mad at Beerbelly. The pot and burner finally turned up today, a month and a half later... But man o man their work is a thing of beauty. They gave me a bag of cascade hops as an apology for the delay too so bonus :) Will be making this beer up today once I have gone and refilled...

    Marilyns Secret Stuff Up?

Update - just about 3 weeks since i put this beer down now. The gravity has been sitting at 1016 for the last couple of days so racked it off into a keg this morning. Think it works out to be around 5.8%. Tastes while taking sg readings have been quite good, so once it has cooled down I will...

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

Well this beer won't be being made this weekend as planned. After almost a month, beer belly have still not sent my pot or burner. Sent hem an email with no response, called them over a week ago and was told it was getting sent the next day, which it was not. Not happy as father in law was...

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

Thanks mate. A 2 month lager would probably be a better option as I haven't made this recipe before and would be better to test it at that stage and then make another ready for October if i like it. Will also have the benefit of having a keg out of action for a shorter time that way. Am using...

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

Yeah I had actually written in brackets after that step (is this nessecary) before i edited it because of the reading i have done. Though had the thoughts of it might add flavour/complexity to the beer so left it out to see what people thought. Thank you for your response mckenry

    Preparing for Oktoberfest

I know probably a little early but have decided to start my Oktoberfest party preps early this year. Have only done a couple AG brews and they have been with split boils as I only ever had a 15L pot in the past (8 hour brew day ftw :beerbang: ). I have recently ordered a 36L kettle and italian...

    Marilyns Secret Stuff Up?

UPDATE - I haven't stuffed my beer up! Went downstairs this morning to do a gravity test, opened the fridge and was welcomed by the sight of a nice fluffy cloud sitting on top of the wort :) should turn out to be a bloody nice beer. Would be interesting to know if it had actually kicked off...

    Transporting Liquid Yeast

Hi guys, I have recently moved to the far northern reaches of this great country of ours and have a question regarding getting liquid yeast up here. Im up in Cooktown FNQ and getting stuff delivered up here takes on average a few days to over a week. If ordering liquid yeast is it going to...

    Marilyns Secret Stuff Up?

Thanks mate. Cant remember the yeast but it was an american ale one I think? Same coloured pack as the belle saison yeast. I did rehydrate it and saw the yeast bubbling in the container before pitching. Have the fridge set at 18c now. Will take another reading tomorrow.

    Marilyns Secret Stuff Up?

Hi guys, Bought one of the specials of the month from the coopers store a while back "Marilyns Secret" and put it on yesterday. Did everything by the recipe though I added in 150g of steeped crystal. Recipe calls for topped up to 23L but as I keg I only filled it to 20L. Let it cool down to low...

    Finally back into brewing again

Put this in the keg a few days back now. Has a really nice ginger taste but it has a real thick feeling to it. Looks like an English brown ale that you can't see through at all. Turned out to be just over 6.5%. I thinks it's great but the missus has been thinning it out by only pouring half a...

    Finally back into brewing again

Hey guys, been a while since I've been on this forum or even brewed a beer (bout 3 years now). But over Christmas holidays i scored myself a fridge for free. Missus thought it was another food storage device... How wrong she was! Straight away had the temp control hooked up to it and a week...
