    1st Lager, so now what?

Well the diacetyl rest was successfull, and the beer cleaned up nicely, the gelatine worked to a certain extent, but I still have some (very little) chill haze. I have been patient and have not drunk any until today, result is a great beer. Thanks for the info lads, I might chuck in a bit of...

    Post Boil Gravity...why?

It's not really that hard to take that reading is it? It would be the same as your O.G. unless you had adjustments to make. And how else would you know what adjustments you need to make?

    Thread sealant for brew equipment

Loctite and liquid thread sealants are not things I would like floating around in my brew, I'm a mechanical plumber and we use heat to break the seal on these systems so they can be undone easily, thinking you should just use tape. Gas tape is thicker if you feel you need it.

    Wort Chiller not great

I find that recirculating water from my 2500L rainwater tank through my chiller works just fine! Maybe it just comes down to thermal mass? If you have a big enough Ice bath for the input of recirculated heat to be insignificant you're winning, but a bucket aint gonna cut it. Replacing the Ice...

    Another STC 1000 Wiring question

Haven't had a problem with mine. Running 2800watt element for two years. Just set your cycle delay to a higher number to avoid it turning on and off incessantly.

    Another STC 1000 Wiring question

Yeah Wagga its going in a Keg, and as i plan to do and ale next - in the lager fridge it shall go for lageragering. So going by the feedback, i'll let it rest at 18C for a week? then rack it off into a keg, CC to 5C, then add Gelatine to remove haze and so-forth. Then see how long i can go with...

    1st Lager, so now what?

So I decided to enter the world of Lagers. Decided on a simple Czech Pils- Mainly Weyerman Pils, with some melanoiden thrown in for good measure, hopped with Hallertau and French Strisselspelt used Wyeast 2278. Made myself a temperature controlled fridge (with an STC1000 PID) and sat it a 8-10...

    Metallic tang in my brew

might just be covered by other flavours till after fermentation. Be careful with Chinese (or cheap asian in general) metals as they are often recycled in small batches and can contain lead and other undesirables.

    Metallic tang in my brew

Bet on the cam locks, metals from china are not usually what they say they are. i.e: sold as stainless but really just chromed brass- and that will give you a metallic flavour for sure.

    Malt Conditioning

Yeah, all I read says moisture amounts are key, and allowing time for the husks to absorb it. Might give it a whirl.
