    Coopers Ales

Just reporting back after a bit of age on the sparkling ale keg. I did a side by side with a fresh red can and here are my notes. The commercial is a lot lighter in colour. I only added 150g medium crystal but my guess it Coopers don't add any anymore. I prime carbed the keg trying to keep it...

    Coopers Ales

First taste out of the fermenter was very close. I know the yeast plays a big part in the flavour. My gravity was a bit out, 1.009 where I was shooting for 1.006, may be my pitch rate, 1L starter. I have plenty of yeast to play with now. The flavour difference to the original is a more...

    Coopers Ales

I made the Coopers Sparkling ale yesterday mainly based on your byo link Dough. I adjusted the recipe for coopers ale malt as the base. I left out the crystal as I was told the coopers malt is dark but halfway through the mash added a little for visual colour adjustment. Mashed at 63C for 1.5hr...

    Coopers Ales

Hi Rob, Yes I've read the Tony Wheeler article. It was very informative. I've been a member on this site since the beginning and have made a lot of the recipes here. But my brewing is on and off with time constraints. I'll check out Jamil's stuff too. Thanks for all the help mate!

    Coopers Ales

Thanks for the great info Rob. I'm from Adelaide so it's a sin not to mix in the yeast to a coopers! I'll be kegging this too and giving it a pre-pour swirl. Interesting regarding ferment temps too. I'm going to propagate some extra yeast so I've got some to play around with. Do you know of...

    Coopers Ales

Thanks for the starting point. I've found a few recipes on Beersmith that look ok but don't have any tasting notes comments. Most use pale malt, wheat and crystal. The 1953 sparkling sounds interesting too. Vintage ale recipe would be good to try also.

    Coopers Ales

I'm looking for a good recipe for Coopers Pale and Sparkling ale just to brew up for fun and because I enjoy it as a commercial beer. Even a vintage ale recipe would be nice. I did a search but there wasn't any recent discussion or recipes so thought I'd ask. It's been a while since I've been...

Where did my beautiful taste go?

I have just done a side by side with a double decocted Oktoberfest, one bottle conditioned and one bottle filled from keg, not cpbf'ed but slow poured. Taste wise, the bottle conditioned has about double the flavour of the comparison. I thought it could be either oxidation or a sub prime bottle...

    Sodium Percarbonate Surfactant?

Sodium Metasiicate replaced TSP in cleaning products as it contains no Phosphates. TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) contributed to an increase of blue/green algae in our waterways. I use both at work and TSP is definitely the stronger cleaner of the two. Painters also use it to etch a previously...

    Removing Black Japan

You start by cross cutting the boards on a 45 angle with a drum sander using 24, or 13 grit paper, depending on how bad the boards are. This will level the boards ready for sanding. This will also get rid of most of the black japan. On the edges, be prepared to use a lot of discs. Try to get...

    Son Of A ...

I'm considering purchasing a new, larger bottle in the New Year and keep my smaller one as a backup or make a portable sulo system. I read a few months ago that Supagas is offering a fully owned 6kg bottle for $150, with $50 refill. I called the Adelaide office, and found out it isn't offered...

    New Toy Drum Smoker

I have been practicing smoking ribs over the past few months with my UDS. It's been a challenge, the first few batches came out a bit tough. Reason being temperature under the bottom grill was 10deg cooler than the top. I was aiming to smoke at 120deg, but the top grill was reaching 130+. The...
