Quick Disconnects / Camlock - Advice

I have 2 breweries, one uses camlocks, the other uses quick disconnects. Id go for QDs every time, way less fiddly, they do what you want them to with far less fuss.

Braumeister vs 3V: pros and cons

Maybe I'm missing something, with a Kal clone electric brewery 3V HERMS you'd be using more than one hose during the recirculating mash. HLT into pump back into HLT (to move the liquor and keep the temp consistent) Mash into pump; pump to HERMS; HERMS back to top of mash. That's 5 hoses by my...

Starting an Electric Brew control panel for AG brewing

    There's heaps on aliexpress, e.g.: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/AC-220V-Volt-Meter-AC-75V-to-300V-Blue-Digital-Voltmeter-Digital-Panel-Meter-Volt-Testers/715558567.html I got this combined volt/amp meter...

Starting an Electric Brew control panel for AG brewing

My $0.02, ditch the DC meters and get AC ones. That way you skip 2 sensitive components (step down transformer and AC > DC power supply) and just use your native 240VAC straight into the meters. Conceptually simpler and much simpler to wire. No shunt for the amp meter either, 240VAC amp meters...

    Anyone using an Auber JSL-73B?

Ah right, cool. I've chronicled my whole build here if that's any use to you. http://www.forum.realbeer.co.nz/profiles/blog/list?user=2hj1i53fen809 Yeah that 240V/A meter I used seems to work pretty reliably too. I'm much more comfortable having no transformers and DC supplies in my system...

    Anyone using an Auber JSL-73B?

What it takes is to use the alarm relay to switch the SSR output on. But then to use it 'normally' you'd want an additional switch on your control panel to be able to isolate that functionality (otherwise you'd be stuck with having to set a timer every time you brewed). I didn't have room in my...

    Anyone using an Auber JSL-73B?

You won't find much in it because it's new. I wouldn't imagine many people have used it yet (me included, still waiting for sparky to work his magic). I got that particular Auber because I wanted to use it's built in timer to switch my HLT on whilst I'm still in bed. Contrary to the description...

That photo looks familiar (it's my panel). What do you need to know?

    Wort Chiller Just Ain't Chillin

Lagers cool more quickly than ales though right? Surely we can all agree on that

    RIP Rik Mayall

This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say, "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say, "Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead! And...

Difference between PT100 probe & thermocouple

PT100 is what you need and Auber have the best ones. You can get a 1/2"NPT thread model to go into your plumbing (typically for a recirculating system) or a weld-less model to fit directly into your vessel. The deluxe cable option is well worth paying the extra for if you're fitting the PID...

    Barley Crusher Hell

Whilst I definitely agree, your hand in the bottom of it is no where near as big a risk as in the top – the rollers at the bottom are rolling away from each other. DO NOT put your hands anywhere near the top.

    Barley Crusher Hell

Same issue for me. I've resorted to what I call the "reach around" method: reach under the base board with your spare hand (right hand is on the drill) and flick the non-drive roller to get it spinning again. Watch your fingers! Such a pain in the arse, I have to give it a reach around every few...

    Mac's Hop Rocker

Nope, it's Macs. Short for McCashin - namely Terry McCashin the ex All Black who started the brewery in 1983.

Anhc - What Did You Learn?

Ha Tony, there's probably a lot of truth in that. The beer was freely available and flowing. To our credit though I don't recall anyone getting seriously out of sorts, during the conference sessions anyway. John Palmers talk on residual alkalinity was the only time I've ever made any sense of...

    The Australian National Homebrewing Conference

+1 Awesome conference, great people, great beer. I particularly enjoyed Jamil and John, Jon Herskovits, Jess Caudill, Phil Sexton. Also chatting to Mick Jontef on the way to the gala dinner. And all the beers, especially the Wig and Pen stout and Ron Feruglio's golden ale. I didn't get to meet...

    Commercial Ipa

I tried some James Squires IPA last night (kiwi in Melbourne for ANHC). Not bad for a readily available commercial drop. Not nearly hoppy enough for my taste, but firmly bitter with some pleasant marmalade notes, reasonably full in the mouth too. Definitely leaning towards an English...
