    Ordering From Oz Tops

Seriously, if you have wanted to try something like Oztops, or have but want to try to do it yourself you should try this. I went to Bunnings and got a few cistern washers (only $1 each), that are the perfect size for fitting under a 2 or 3lt juice lid. All I did was with a sharp knife put a...

    Fat Yak Clone

I would also dry hop a little cascade...not much though. Yeast is very important, you want something that attenuates high but still leaves flavour, body and mouthfeel, and a constant 18 degrees if possible. I do a similar recipe but also add a touch of maltodextrin to get that velvety fat yak...

Accidental Overpriming: Which Bottles Can Handle It?

Bottle bombs are bad. Grolsch swingtops will let excessive pressure out, and PET will take a lot of pressure although they can still split but will not be anywhere near as dangerous as glass. I would not use recycled 750m bottles where you can see a seam or glass join, and that is probably 70%...

    First Brew

By secondary fermentation I assume you mean bottle conditioning. Once you put them in the fridge, they will settle and clear as any remaining yeasts floculate and drop, and ther flavour can blend a little but they will not mature any more, and they will not carbonate any more. You really...

    Sanitizing Questions

I have never, ever had a spoiled brew, bottle or keg and keep my cleaning and sanitising regime very simple. Bottles are all cleaned after use (hot water only like in the pubs). Before use I use hot water and pink powder, rinse in cold water and spray with diluted iodophor and use after they...

Keeping Beer In Kegs Outside The Fridge

Consider your keg like a big bottle of home brew...storing it in the garage, the spare room, ther laundry etc is fine as long as it is sealed and pressurised. The beer will not go off if bacteria cannot get in. As far as temp goes, that is exactly the same principle...keep it as consistent as...

Recipe Ideas For My Leftover Kits And Bits

    Blending Of Kegs?

No dramas, I usually runa Mongrel keg that has left overs from the full kegs, and I store it and top it up with other left overs...as long as you sanitise, and watch for oxidisation you will be right to blend kegs to achieve a more mellow bitterness, or to just experiment.

    Cloudy Brew...bland Tasting?

If your OG, ingredients, temps and FG were all the same, I would suggest it is that old chestnut "the kit yeast". In saying that, most of the time they are OK, but remember they are shipped and stored for many, many months in shops that are not temp controlled, and some will degrade in quality...

    Straining Hops

I use simple cheap old stockings from the supermarket, cut them up and pop my hops in them. I tie them up (knotted at both ends)and put them in the boil...the great thing about them is they are very cheap, and they expand/stretch as the hops absorb water as well and this helps release the hop...

I Might Have Got A Bit Too Excited

Hey there, sounds like the guy on Youtube was making a Toucan, basically using 2 cans of goo instead of 1 can combined with fermentable sugars...all I can say is the 2 cans will be already hopped, so an addition of any hops (even 10min boill of POR) will make a pretty bitter beer. 1kg of crystal...

Hi all, just wondering if any feedback was sent out to entries (tasting notes, judging notes etc) as I would love to get feedback on the beers I entered. I havent received anything yet. Bubba

    Summer Ale Advice

Hi, I do a golden/summer ale with POR for bittering, amarillo for 10mins and Neslon Sauvin at flame out. I do a 50l batch and use 40g POR, 40g Amarillo and 35g Neslon...Nelson can overwhelm and so can Amarillo, but used together in moderation make a very subtle, but noticeable combo for ales...

    Some Gb Kit Questions.

Raw sugar is fermentable, it is used mainly for the flavour although I don't think it makes that much difference really. I have never used clearing agents or finings and don't believe they are necessary, good process and aging are better than any clearing agent added to a brew. GB will mature as...

    Damn Weather!

Hey, don't stress. The first few days are the most critical in terms of temp effect, and one day won't kill your brew. You might get a few more Esters and a bit of fruit, but some people actually like it as long as your brew is under good temp control for the majority of it's time. 27 for 1 day...

    Now What?

Hi There, sounds like you are ready for extract. Ditch the kits and start using LME, your own choice of hops bolied, steeped grain, good malts and a specialty yeast. Start off simple and adapt to your tastes, there are a lot of simple extract recipes here. Use a good, well known yeast like US-05...
