Fresh Wort Kits. Are They Any Good?

I'm up to my 5th FWK from ND now. Best beer I've ever brewed from a kit. The Summer Ale has been my favourite. The Porter has been very similar to a Toohey's Old. And the Aussie Pale Ale is very similar to a Cooper's Red. I just add 5 liters and thenput them in my brewing fridge where I'm...

    Cleaning Pet Bottles

My cleaning set up is pretty simple: After drinking rinse and clean with bottle brush. Rinse again. Let drain on bottle tree until needed. Before next bottling rinse with iodophor. Never had a problem with infections with the above.

    Brewtarget

Just came across a brewcalculator. Haven't used it but it's cross platform which makes it handy. http://brewtarget.sourceforge.net/

    St. Peter's Fwk

Thanks guys, I'll give one a try and see what happens, nothing to lose... Rod, here's the link http://www.thebrewshop.com.au/beer-wort-co...a0736ec00704969 Unless you're in Sydney and can drive to the shop to pick up the drum it'll cost you a fortune in postage. Edit, Rod noticed you're in...

    St. Peter's Fwk

Hi all: I've been looking at trying some of the St. Peter's FWK. Interested mainly in the American Pale Ale, Summer Ale and Amber Ale. Has anyone tried them and if so what do you think of them? The extra cost really isn't an issue, I just want an easy to brew kit (all malt) that's half way...

    Coopers Micro - Brew

What I do to test for seal integrity is to put a small object on top of the lid so that liquid in airlock moves a bit. If seal is working properly the liquid should stay at the new level without equalizing.

    Mixed My Yeasts

Thanks guys, will use the 05 yeast. I have a few bottles left of the same stout made with the 04 so it'll be interesting to see what difference the 2 yeasts make to the finished beer. Will keep you posted.

    Mixed My Yeasts

Wasn't thinking too clearly this morning when I started brewing. I made an ESB LCPA clone and instead of using the S05 I used the S04 which I can't see being a problem. But I'm left with an ESB Irish Dry Stout kit and the S05 american ale yeast for my next brew. What do you guys reckon? Buy...

    Brew Temperature Too Low

Started brewing in fridge and all has gone well except that the heater element that i use to maintain temp. seems to have gone south. Brew was at 20 degrees for 2 days but has dropped to around 16 degrees and it's still happily bubbling away. Yeast is Safale04. After reading a bit I imagine...

Secondary Ferment Or Bottle Esb Little Creatures?

YW, I bottled (long necks) after 1 week, temp was around 22 degrees most of the time and fermentation pretty well stopped after 5 days. Time in bottle now is 6 weeks. Pretty sure the yeast was the s05 one that I picked up at Peakhurst shop. For my next one I'll add one of the 200gr packs of...

Secondary Ferment Or Bottle Esb Little Creatures?

I'm actually drinking a glass of this as I type. Brewed as per instructions with supplied Safale yeast. It's 6 weeks old now and drinking very nicely indeed. To OP, FG gravity on mine was around 1014 for this brew. I bottled with only 1 carbonation drop instead of 2 as recommended and I really...

    Air Lock Won't Stop Bubbling

Thanks for the quick responses. SG was 1046. Bugger it, I'll bottle. If bottles explode I can blame you guys :P

    Air Lock Won't Stop Bubbling

Hi: I started a brew 10 days ago (ESB 3kg English Bitter, 200gr amber malt, Safale S-04 yeast). I pitched the yeast at around 25 degrees and it started within 4 hours. Then I put it in the fridge and maintained temp at around 18-20 degrees. Checking the SG and it has been stable at 1012 for 4...

I'm Getting Hitched! - To Serve Homebrew At A Reception Or Not

Around 10 years ago I brewed a 20lt keg for a mate's wedding. I settled on an AG Munich Lager style because of it's appeal to non hopheads. Even the bride's parents (Japanese) liked it and I think it was one of my best brews ever. So definitely, go for it, you won't regret it.

Brewing Lagers - Using A Fridge

That is correct Budwiser, the switched active goes to neutral via the "load" (fridge) first to complete the circuit.

Brewing Lagers - Using A Fridge

Drewcifer, look at this thread. http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum//ind...mp;#entry367165. The photo that "Crunched" posts is how you should be wiring yours. The wiring diagram you have is correct, but confusing. 1 & 11=Active 2=Switched Active 12=Neutral Edit, noticed your diagram...

Brewing Lagers - Using A Fridge

Guys, something I'm not sure about with these controllers. The 240v output (cool/refrigerate) from the controller gets connected to the power lead on the fridge? Or to the temp controller inside the fridge? If the former what setting do you use for the thermostat inside the fridge? Warmest I...
