Timer To Get Hlt To Temp As You Get Out Of Bed

Looking to purchase a PID controller and would like to be able to set up the HLT the night before brew day and have it automatically heat up the water to strike temp for a certain time the following morning. Temperature

The way I've overcome this issue is to get hold of an old S/S dip tube from a keg, fold one end of it over on itself a couple of times to seal it. Drill a hole in the lid of your fermenter and add a rubber grommet and slide the dip tube into it from the underside. The temperature proble of my...

    Allternative To Dme

Cheers boys, reason for doing the yeast starter was habit, do one for my beer, so why not cider? Also using Champagne yeast 1118, it's looking rather sluggish at the moment, furmenting at 17 deg C. Usually use apple juice, but forgot until it was tpp late and had 23L of water in the tub....doh...

    Allternative To Dme

Has anyone used Dextrose instead of DME for doing a yeast starter? I'm doing a cider and didn't want to use DME as I was afraid of adding flavours that didn't really match the cider. Any idea on quantities and DO'S AND DON'T? Diggles

Difference Between 60 And 90 Min Boil Time

Has anyone found any marked difference between a 60 and a 90 min boil? I'm thinking of doing back to back batches as it should only add about 60 mins to the total time, depending on the boil time. Chilling the wort may be problematic with only the one Kettle! Diggles

How Long Should It Take For Hop Rhizomes To Take Off?

Just planted Cascade about a week ago in a pot with potting mix as the soil in Karratha isn't the best to say the least. Unsure how I'll go but fingers crossed. Watering will be done via the retic system, so water shortage shouldn't be an issue. Placed about 30mm of wood chips over the top to...
