    Sierra Nevada@dan Murphys

I just came back from the US and couldn't get enough of the Sierra Nevada brews, they have some very tasty stuff.

Where Do You Buy Commercial Beer - Sydney

Just wondering where I can get Westmalle Tripel in Sydney these days. I've tried Platinum, a heap of Vintage Cellars, First Choice etc without luck. Every shop says try blah blah blah but I'm still out of luck.

    Fresh Wort Kits

I've done a heap of the St Peters FWK's. They are all excellent but some do need dry hopping as Bribie mentioned. They are well worth trying.

Safale S-04 Ale Yeast Off Flavours.

I've used S-04 heaps of times and never had a problem with it. Some of my best IPA's have been brewed with S-04. I usually ferment in the 18-20 degrees range.

    Hangover Cures

3 Panadeine or 2 Nurofen Plus before going to sleep (the codeine hit cures everything) and if you're somehow still crook in the morning take 2 more and as much coke as your body can stomach. The ingredients in the coke hasten the effects of the codeine. Never fails. And that's Coke as in the...

The Greatest Beer Of All Time!

Best beer in the world? - the next one! But if I had a choice it'd be Westmalle Tripel hands down.

Have You Built Your Stocks Up For Christmas ?

48 longnecks of APA 24 longnecks of IPA 24 longnecks of Porter A FWK Pilsner happily doing it's stuff in the fermenter & an English bitter on the way today. That should be enough for me, dunno about the guests though.

    Bottle Bombs

I'm petrified of bottle bombs, especially because I have a house full of young children. I only use Coopers longnecks for bottling, so far so good. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had problems with Coopers bottles? Some of the other brands seem to use thin bottles in comparison.

    Pitching Yeast At High Temperatures?

I'm just wondering how a Bavarian Lager will go with an Ale yeast? Shouldn't you be using a Lager yeast?

    Fermentation Temps While On Holiday

I had a similar problem a month or so ago. What I did was turn the fridge on and set it at the least coldest setting and wrap the fermenter in old blankets. With a little fiddling and a few days practice I managed to keep the fermenter temp at about 18 degrees. It seemed to work ok, when I had a...

    Finally! Kiwi Micro's In Melb

I'm off to Melbourne in a couple of weeks, it looks like I'll have to leave one of the kids behind so I can fit more beer into the car, this news is heavenly. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it. :icon_drool2:

Bridge Road Pale Ale - Remarkably Bad

I was once driving past the back of my local Dan Murphy's and was horrified to see pallets of wonderful beer sitting in the sun in the middle of summer. I went past a few hours later and it was still sitting in the sun, shame on them for treating God's nectar in this way.

    Brewers Choice Fresh Wort

"Do they come with yeast or do you need to supply your own? " You'll have to supply your own, I get the FWK and Safale yeast for about $43, plus get a $2 refund when I take the empty cube back. Excellent kits, well worth trying. Just ask your LHBS about 'doing a deal' regarding the cost of the...

    Redoak Organic Pale Ale

I bought a couple of bottles at my local Dan's a month or so ago - it was definitely sour. Barely drinkable and not worth the cost.

The Last Time A Brew Really Excited You

"i've got a Norwest Pale Ale fresh wort in the fermenter (only 5 days) & i'm hopping, i mean HOPING it tastes pretty good after a couple of weeks in the bottle because i don't think i can wait any longer." Same here, the days can't go quickly enough!! The wort tasted awesome.

What Are Your All Time Fave Gigs?

AC/DC - Sydney entertainment centre 2001, 2nd row from the front. I remember seeing the security guys jamming ear plugs in beforehand, I soon found out why because I couldn't hear properly for days afterwards. Sensational concert though, every song a classic. Hoodoo Gurus - Caringbah Inn 1983...

    Question About Lme

Yeah it's in a plastic jar with the LHBS sticker plastered all over it....I think it was about $8 for a litre from memory. I'm new to this game, the cost still worked out cheap (well to me anyway). I'm learning every day - sanitisation - fermentation temps - ingredients - recipes -...

    Question About Lme

Hi all, The other day in the excitement of creating my latest IPA I made a horrible mistake. I had the tin of goo and LME sitting in the sink in fairly hot, but not boiling, water for about 10 minutes to soften them up. However, when I took them out I discovered to my horror that it was the...
