Kegking 19L new kegs vs second hand

The new Italian ones seem to be around $180 at most places, $165 at iBrew. At that price it seems hard to justify. I hadn't thought about the lack of rubber ends. I'm a little heavy handed/clumsy with my current kegs so may be a factor. Seems like I might have to make a trip to keg king...

Kegking 19L new kegs vs second hand

I was just looking at prices for a couple extra kegs and noticed that kegking are now selling new kegs for $99 vs $69 for second hand ones. I've noticed the quality of second hand kegs are not as good as a few years ago (everyone cherry picked the good ones?) Given this and the cost of...

    Westgate Stout Extravaganza 2013

Thanks Ferg. My first comp so no idea what goes on so it'll be a learning experience if nothing else!

What time do things kick off at the local on the 7th?

    Split Co2 Line

A follow up to this, I think I've solved the problem. Each time I was heating up the hose, pushing it over the barb as far as possible and clamping pretty much straight away. I tried again but this time only put just enough over the barb to clamp and waited a while before screwing the clamp...

    Split Co2 Line

I should have mentioned both times I've used keg king line. It just seems really odd that everyone I've spoken to says they've never had this problem! I'll try to track down a different brand line and see how that goes.

    Split Co2 Line

I did have one of the stepless clamps but replaced it with a screw tight one as it has happened a few times and it easier to get on and off each time.

    Split Co2 Line

I've been having issues with my co2 line constantly splitting at the barb where it connects to the regulator. Initially I thought it was caused by high pressure while force carbonating. I've replaced the line and left the co2 at 15psi and it still split. Both times the line is/was 5mm ID...

    Keg King Regulator Manual?

Excellent, I think that pretty much covers it. Thanks for the info guys much appreciated! Oh I hear you BeerFingers, I just figure I don't want to do things by trial and error with a bottle with ~1000psi of co2. Also I guess I'm just a sucker for a good instruction booklet :)

    Keg King Regulator Manual?

I purchased all the parts required to build my kegging system yesterday but in all the excitement I forgot to check if there was any instructions for the keg king regulator and the shop was shut at that point. Does anyone know if the regulator is meant to come with instructions or if there are...

    Minimum Extract Boil Volume?

It is an amber ale...just might be a dark/sweet one. As gavo rightly put it I'll just go ahead and brew it. If it's too sweet I'm sure the other half will still like it :) Thanks all for the help!

    Minimum Extract Boil Volume?

Thanks for the responses. I'm still pretty new to all this! The recipe in the book is: 2 x 1.5kg light LME 900g crystal 60L 14g Centennial @ 60 28g Mt Hood @ 30 28g Willamette @ 15 Total IBUs 43 Total Volume 19L (I'll substitute the Mt Hood with what ever I can get my hands on) But will...

    Minimum Extract Boil Volume?

It's not a partial (unless steeping speciality grains counts), I'm going to give the amber ale in 'how to brew' a go. I don't have the recipe on hand but from memory it's 2 x 1.5kg light LME and around 500g(?) crystal. Good to know I don't have to drop more cash to give extracts a go.

    Minimum Extract Boil Volume?

I wanted to have a crack at my first extract this weekend but I only have a 5L pot at the moment. Is there a minimum boil volume before it starts to impact hops utilisation? (assuming appropriate boil gravity) I had a quick search but couldn't find an answer... Or am I wasting my time with...

Heads Up Big W Stockpots $12

I saw these pots today...pretty cheap even when they aren't on special. One question though, they seemed to have a really thin base on them. Would that cause any problems for brewing extracts?

    Mountain Goat Hightail Ale Recipe

Has anyone brewed up a batch yet? I'm thinking about doing an hightail extract for my next brew so I'm interested in how they went and what your final recipe was.

Help With Coopers Wheat Kit Recipe

I ended up doing a slight variation after seemax's suggestion. I bumped it up by 2L in total volume and added some dextrose to compensate (I kinda went a little crazy with some brew calcs :) ). 1 Coopers Wheat Kit 1kg DWME 200g dextrose safbrew wb-06 20L total volume It had a slightly higher...

Help With Coopers Wheat Kit Recipe

Thanks for the advice. I did think about Wyeast but decided that it was a bit expensive while I'm getting started :) Are there any issues with reducing the total volume to 18L?
