    BJCP course?

I know a study group was being run around Ringwood or Croydon late last year. I would be keen to get in board with something, too.

    One yeast sachet or two?

Grab a cup of 35-40degree hot (preboiled) water. Tip your dry yeast on top. Don't stir. Cover with foil. Come back in 30 minutes, stir well, throw in contents of cup. Will greatly increase (Well probably more accurately prevent a decrease) in the number of viable little yeasties you've got...

Simple ways to take samples from fermenters without taps

Oooh those glass wine thieves look nice. I will try and hunt one down. That's exactly what I'm after.

Simple ways to take samples from fermenters without taps

So I'm looking for something like a valinch I guess. Something to take samples out of glass carboys and barrels without having to go through the hassle of sanitising a whole syphon/hose setup. Anyone got any nice simple ideas? I'm thinking super simply a long piece of copper or PVC dunked in...

How much infection is too much infection? Swollen Cube.

Waiting was my original intention but we're around month five now - how long would you propose I wait? I'm done waiting, time to make a decision. It still smells fine though I haven't tasted it. Sounds like I'm on the right track with the ferment-in-cube idea. Might throw a pack or two of US05...

How much infection is too much infection? Swollen Cube.

The cube is pretty round now. I reckon it'll now have a capcity of 26 litres or something. It's huge. I'll post a pic compared to some other cubes tonight. My concern around the fermenter is permanently infecting it with whatever is producing CO2 in my cube - not blowing up a fermenter :)

How much infection is too much infection? Swollen Cube.

hello folks been happily AG brewing and cubing for about three years now (time goes fast!) but I find myself with my first swollen cube. In November I did a double batch of Janet's Brown into two cubes. When I went to ferment a week or so later I found one of the cubes had swollen right up. I...

    Hop Dealz Australia

Hmm bummer. I feared as much. I thought I must have the freshed EKG in Australia when I saw 2013 on the website. Thanks for the prompt reply as always, Yob.

Oh lovely, thank you :) And can you confirm what year EKG I've got?

    Hop Dealz Australia

Lo Yob Got my recent order very quickly, thank you. Couple of items of feedback: 1) Website lists EKG as 2013. Packet received was marked as 2012. 2) One of the packs I'd ordered (Collumbus I think?) was marked as "BONUS PACK" in texta. I'm not really sure what's bonus about it - did I get...

2013 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

My Tettnang and Willamette are starting to look a lot like this. Cones are starting to puff out like that and feel light. First year so I'm not exactly sure when to harvest. What's the downside of too early and what's the downside of too late? I plan to harvest Sunday at this stage. Tettnang...

making a BIAB set up out of a keg

I had one of these (Electric keggle for brew in a bag). It worked but there were downsides: 1) Often had burnt taste in my beer. This seemed to progress more and more as the elements aged and is the thing that forced me to abandon my electric rig. 2) Required element shield (Cake rack) which...

    The Kegging Conundrum

19l kegs are cheaper (less than half the price) of the 9l guys - also, get the kegs with the rubber at the top and bottom - they'll last a lot longer. You don't need new 19l kegs - we all use second hand ones. I'd anticipate you can get get a 19l keg, lines, a reg and a gas bottle for your...

    Brewmate question

I have this chart stuck to one of my fermenting fridges. You need to allow for whirlpool and chilling but it's good enough

Using a glass-top electric stove for flask boiling

I have never been brave enough to use my erlenmeyers on an electric stove top so I always do my starters on the side burner. Always had massive problems with boilovers until about 6 months ago when they magically stopped. There no boilover activity at all now. Weird.

    Kogan's floating pool thermometer

Unfortunately in my trials I find the BBQ meat thermometer reads around 10c over my LHBS bought one so I tend to not trust it.

    Kogan's floating pool thermometer

Just throw the rubber cord in? I have a spare STC1000 or two. Wasn't sure how the rubber would go at higher temps not incased in something though.

    Reviving An Old Keg

I have seven kegs. 6 of them have removable posts, washers, etc (with stainless gas-in post). the seventh has a plastic gas-in tube under a normal looking post and the fittings don't seem to be removable from the posts once I get the posts off the keg. Since I'm here, I might hijack...
