    Bitterness Extraction

same question: can the gravity of the wort be increasing after removing the grain?

    Bitterness Extraction

manticle, in this case utilisation and isomerisation is the same. Bitterness comes from isomerized alpha acid. Isomerisation depends on the boiling time as you can see in the graph. If youre going to remove the hops, there cannot be any isomerization anymore.

    Bitterness Extraction

everything is well explained on the Glenn Tinseth page: http://www.realbeer.com/hops/research.html and here: http://www.realbeer.com/hops/

For inspiration, here a selfmade "Braumeister" with hop feeder: http://www.hobbybrauer.de/modules.php?name...12&tid=4639 pics say more than thausend words

    Brewing System

Screwy, the basic idea behind the Speidel is doing a full volume mash, that means basically not to sparge. Otherwise there would be a little bit too much grain in the malt pipe and the recirc. pump would have difficulties to pump the wort through. Since the malt is very cheap over here, one may...

    Brewing System

Okay, MHB has answered already the most of the questions. Just some comments: of course sparging is possible. Just hang up the malt pipe in the upper position and sparge. Anaway, your question about efficiency is justifiable, most of users I know complain a little bit a low efficiency, but...

    Brewing System

bottom and top is perforated, so the wort pump pumps permanently through the malt pipe and keeps the grain floating.

    Brewing System

yeah, it seems to be a combination of BIAB and RIMS. sorry, I posted the german site, here is the english site: http://www.speidels-braumeister.de/shop_co...raumeister.html I think its ideal for people who live in an appartment or in a flat, anyway for people with limited space. Passionate...

What are you brewing II ?

Thanks Screwy, many thanks, thats what Im dreaming of :) Its not only the cold that pisses me off, its also the dollars (euros) they run through the gas and electricity meter on days like that. Lucky people over there, you are :icon_cheers:

What are you brewing II ?

wanted to brew this morning.....outside temp around -16 (minus sixteen!) everything is frozen, hard like stones. But Im a passionate brewer, not a candy-arse. Tried to fill the mashtun with water, sh...t....the water hose is frozen as well, no water comes out. Hmmm....what to do now :angry...

    Skin On Top Of Fermenter

Hoyt, Im not sure that it is really Kahmhefe, but if it is and the beer doesnt smell and tastes bad yet, hurry up and fill it in bottles. Kahmhefe is an aerobic yeast, it needs oxygen to grow. Try to avoid any contact with oxygen. Cheers mate :icon_cheers: edit: I see, NickB was faster :)

    Skin On Top Of Fermenter

Sorry mate, that could be "Kahmhefe" (film forming yeast), thats a kind of wild yeast and makes your beer awful. It smells a bit like toilet and also the taste of the beer will be affected. Its not sour, more like rotten stuff. I hope, Im not right with that :icon_cheers:

    Hefe Weizen

yeah, without a flow restrictor (little lever on the side) it is almost impossible to pour a reasonable weizen. Over here the CO2 content in the beer is counted in gram per litre. For example a Pilsener should contain around 5g/l and Weizen 7.5g/l To hold that amount of CO2 in solution, one...

    Hefe Weizen

Im using kegs only, or later, if I wanna give away some bottles, Im using a CPBF. The beer stands around 2C in the kegerator, beer tube length is around 1m and the pressure is ~150 KPa. Tap with flow restrictor is highly recommended. That way it works really well. Cheers mate :icon_cheers:

    Electronic Bung Valve

yeah, one batch fills three kegs, so I have the possibility to spund three kegs at once and yes, the SMC thingy switches a solenoid valve. But.... as I wrote earlier in the thread, I dont use that unit anymore. My standard beer stays 6 days in the fermenter (primary), then its filled in the kegs...

    Continuing Jokes Thread

A Bavarian was castaway on a small island in the Pacific. After a long time boring life there, a fairy appeared to him and said: I've been told to grant you two wishes, just tell me what youd like most. The Bavarian didnt hesitate and answered: Id like to have a barrel of beer that never would...

    Barefoot Radler

thats the point. I can imagine how an Aussie feels when he orders a radler in Munich, just expecting to get a beer. Must be similar to the feeling a German has when he gets Vegemite for breakfast, expecting that would be a marmelade :P

    Barefoot Radler

sorry mates, a radler is not a beer! a radler is a radler and beer is a beer  a radler is ~50% beer and ~50% lemonade, you like it or you hate it ;) Cheers :icon_cheers:
