Kit Beer Bos At The Nationals

I had a beer with Dan last night, and we got to talking about our beers in the nationals. Dan to my surprise told me that his beer (RIS) that won BEER OF SHOW at the nationals was made from 3 kits, this was Dans last kit before he made the leap to all grain. I must admit I was a little taken...

    Mashmaster Mill Design

I have made a number of mills for brewers here in Canberra, also I am a engineer so I think I can help. Firstly forget Aluminium the rollers they simply will not last, mild steel would be a good option however could rust and wear unless heat treated. S/S is by far the best option as it will...

    What Temp To Pitch

There are a number of ideas on pitching temps, i believe that you should pitch below fermenting temps and allow the temp to rise. Others pitch at say 18-20 and have a fast start to fermentation; each one has an upside and a down side. I believe you can taste the different flavours in both but...

    Wyeast 2001 Pilsener Urquell Strain

Rowan i was after balance I guess, such a small addition you could leave it out all together if you like or replace with Carapils. The all grain process should give good head retention as is, this sort of beer I believe is yeast driven IE clean and crisp but make a big starter. Have a crack it...

    Wyeast 2001 Pilsener Urquell Strain

FYI 2042 Danish Lager Yeast. Rich, Dortmund-style, crisp, dry finish. Soft profile accentuates hop characteristics. Flocculation - low; apparent attenuation 73-77%. (46-56 F, 8-13 C)

    Wyeast 2001 Pilsener Urquell Strain

Rowan i make my Dortmunder with Wyeast 2042, and have had good results with it. The 2001 IMHO would not suit that style, it is more suited to Pilsener Urquell of cause and Oktoberfest and others that are really malt driven, I think you tried my Oktoberfest at my house the other week that was...

Using A Magnetic Stirrer During Fermentation

I am doing it right know, I have a lager stop at 1020 so placed the stirrer under and away I go. This is not the first time I have tried it, around 6 months ago I had a ale stop, gave it a stir and away it went. I have had no bad flavours or watery beer for the one time I tried it, however I...

    Wyeast 1098 Fermentation Temperature

This is my favourite ale yeast; I tend to ferment at the lower end 18c as it give a cleaner product IMO. As for diacetyl never had a problem with this yeast, dont take it of the yeast to early. Stagger
