    The Worst Commercial Beer!

I suppose my vote for worst beer would be the only one I can remember tipping out. I can't even remember the name (stricken from my memory) but it was a chilli beer from, I think, Sunshine Coast Brewery? I'm actually a big chilli and beer (obviously) fan, just not mixed together that way...

He Said "have You Tried Lcpa"?

Glad you started this thread Steve? :P I knew what you were trying to say. ;) Cheers Scott

    Grand Ridge - Up Yours!

I received their assorted 6 pack for Xmas last year. The Yarra Valley Gold and the Hat Lifter Stout were nice enough but the Pilsner just didn't taste right; suspected infection. The Gippsland Gold Pale Ale was less enjoyable; distinct metallic and vegemite flavour. Left a tingling on my...

Fermenter Taps Give Me The Sh@#$its

Steve, I also have the same problem getting the taps back together as they get a little older. But apart from using some hot water and brute force :D I don't have any other solutions. As far as a trick to stop shrinkage, umm...............................don't swim in cold water?? :unsure...

Fermenter Taps Give Me The Sh@#$its

Fents, I religiously pull my taps (white half turn plastic taps) apart after every brew. The couple of times I've had an infection it came from the tap. This was before I started pulling them apart. Cheers Scott

    Columbus (Tomahawk, Zeus, CTZ)

Great timing this thread. Just tapped a keg on Saturday that has Tomahawk as the bittering hop and a combination of Amarillo and Cascade as flavouring and aroma. Initially flavour was great but had a slight harshness in the after taste. In hindsight I probably over did the bitterness a touch...

    Your Wife And Beer

My wife is more than happy with my brewing and actually encourages me to do another brew if I'm in two minds. She'll even go to the brew shop for me when I need more supplies. Leading up to Christmas last year she asked me what I wanted. I just said that a grain mill would be handy and didn't...

    Water Jerry Cans As Fermenters?

Enerjex, Not really necessary to fit airlocks. Just vent any gas build up every couple of days or so. Cheers Scott

    Silicone Washers

G'day TidalPete, I actually used a food grade silicone when I was puting my first mash tun together a year ago (still using it) and it worked well. I still had some left so I tried to use it on the new one. The surface is slightly imperfect but my main problem is that the outside wall isn't...

    Silicone Washers

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys. OldBugman, I'II try a couple of nuts 'n' bolts places before I look at the silicone sheet. Jye, Thanks for the link. Didn't look there. Barra, Unfortunately the pipe is 5/8". But thank you very much for the offer. Most appreciative. :beer...

    Silicone Washers

I'm currently upgrading my mash tun and I'm looking for a place that supplies silicone washers, ideally in Melbourne. I've searched the site and read a lot about cutting up silicone cookware and I've actually found a place where I can get a small sheet of silicone. This sounds promising and I...

    All Extract Brewing...

Totally agree with PostModern. You really need to find another LHBS. Are there many options in Geelong? The only one I know of is in McKillop St. If not then buying in bulk will probably mean a trip to Melbourne. I know Greensborough Home Brew sell in just about any quantity you want. I would...

Anti-no-chill Tips For Bribane Water Resticted Ag Brewers

apd, FWIW my immersion chiller (which is no work of art) got my last brew done to around 30C in 35 mins and used about 70-80 litres. That was acheived by also stirring gently. Scott Edit - Can't spell me name.

    4 Ring Burner Frame?

Fents, Your right, Dave's a good bloke. I got my 4 ring burner from him. It came with a stand that was similar to Darkfaerytale's and it works beautifully. As Warren says some sort of wind break certainly helps if your brewing outside. Scott

    K97 Lag Time

floppinab, I've used K97 three times and each of those times it has taken around 36-48 hrs before there was any airlock activity. I'd give it a little more time. Scott BTW, two brews were done with proofed yeast and one was just sprinkled. Edit - BTW comment
