Bringing this one up again.... As far as stout kits go, I was quite happy with the bog standard Coopers kit I made a few years back. Once it's kegged could you just add chocolate essence? Has anyone tried it? How much essence would you add?

Been a little while since I've used mine but I think a tablespoon of napisan and hot water is all you need and leave it overnight. Sometimes you'll need to do it twice.

As long as it's unhopped. I've only ever used Coopers, basically because it's what my nearest homebrew store has.

That's what I was wondering. Apparently there are quite a few pubs that will happily sell you a full keg of VB etc, as long as you bring it back when it's empty. You probably have to pay some kind of deposit on the keg. I imagine some are thinking that you want to use one for your homebrew...

I don't notice it all. By comparison though, I had a Fuller's ESB (5.7) and a Theakston Old Peculier (5.9) last week and the alcohol was quite apparent in both.

I saw those glasses at Amazon.uk, along with the half pint version. It's a shame they don't ship glasses to Australia though. Personally, I think a pint is a tad too big for a nucleated glass.

I see that you can also buy direct from their web site. Didn't see how much delivery costs though. Their APA came second in the microbrewing.com.au contest that was recently judged.

I made this a few times earlier on when I mostly made kits. I found it nice as is, without the need to add any other hops and used my standard mix of 500gms malt and 500gms dextrose. If your going to use that saflager you'll need to brew cold at around 12c. Do you have a temp controlled...
