    Bitterness Reduction

Andrew, Yes - it should calm down after a while in the bottle. If it doesn't reduce in bitterness enough, you can blend it with another sweeter beer to tone it down. I've done this and it works nicely. Cheers, Tim

    All Apple Cider

I think Ross at Craftbrewer generally stocks the Wyeast 4766. I got it from him last time Well worth a try - the results were better than Champagne yeast IMO.

New Bbc Beer? Series To Download

I'm a late starter to this thread but I've been enjoying this series too. I surprised no-one's mentioned the brew that Oz tries to make with the rosemary and tea - never heard of doing that before. btw - There is a site called www.uknova.com which is a reliable and fast source of TV shows from...

    Pipsqueak Cider Recipe

Hi, My new 'standard' cider is pretty close to Pipsqueak IMO. Berri Pres-free apple juice + Wyeast 4766 One of the best cider's I've tasted. It also doesn't need maturing like ciders made with champagne yeast. This yeast is pretty lively. I was after some bottled cider in a hurry last...

    Crewman Drivers

Hi, My mate's got a 6cyl crewman for his work car and I've driven it and driven in it a few times. The ride is crap because the suspension is set up for 1 tonne. The back seats are very uncomfortable. It's also very long and difficult to park (if you're going to get one, option up the...

    Hoegaarden Ag Clone

I did a wit as #4 or #5 as a BIAB and it was pretty easy I don't have the recipe on me but it was basically: Pilsner malt Raw wheat (these were roughly 50/50) Rolled oats all this mashed at about 65deg for an hour. Then boiled with coriander seeds, mandarin peel + tettnang + saaz Fermented...

What Has Been Your Best Extract Recipe?

Looks very nice.... My best has been my 15 minute Nelson Sauvin Lager: LDME + Nelson Sauvin, boiled for 15 minutes to your preferred bitterness/ABV. Cool then pitch Saflager S23 Dry hop with more Nelson Sauvin. Cheers, Tim

    Home Made Beer Engine

I'm sure they could be adapted so they work like the traditional beer engines - with a bit of tinkering.

    Best Torrent Software/source

+1 for uTorrent I get most of my TV shows from www.uknova.com. UK stuff mainly but very reliable.

    Priming Measuring Spoon

When I last bottled, I used 1/4tsp of normal table sugar and it was pretty much bang-on 1g each. Obviously depends on how coarse the grains are. A (reasonably) scientific way of doing it is to weight a known larger quantity of your sugar (say 1L) and then work out the density. From there you...

    Cider Recipe

My recipe is ~20L of Berri Apple Juice and 4766 Wyeast smacker. Fantastic and very simple The juice is 99.9% apple juice with no preservatives. You can regularly get it for $1/L from the chain supermarkets in 3L bottles. It is reconstituted but I don't know if you could tell the difference...

    Apple Cider

+ 1 on the Wyeast 4766 I put a brew down last weekend using 12L Berri juice (on special for $1 a litre) and then dumped the yeast on it. It was done in about 5 days, so I went and got more juice to top it up to 22L. From what I've read the 4766 smackers don't need added nutrient because it's...

Maisel's Weisse Yeast - Any Advice

Hey Al, Check out the Wyeast site because they list the commercial beers that use that or a very similar yeast. A Wyeast smacker is more convenient and more reliable IMO. And you can get 6+ brews from one packet. Also - It pays to do your research because a lot of German Wheats use a...

    Biab Brewer Register

I've made a couple of 10L batches since attending the last BIAB demo at G&G. So far I've made a Mandarin Hefeweizen and a Golden Ale I only have a 19L cheap-o pot from BigW and it suits my needs nicely. I like the method, but have yet to taste the results (I only bottled the hefe last night)...

    Recipe Help.

Hi, I made this brew (or something very similar) as one of my early brews. It came out very honey-ey but that might be because I primed the bottles with honey too.... It was enjoyable nonetheless. Cheers, Tim

    Cracking Grain

You can chuck it in the blender if you have one that is able to crush ice (e.g. for smoothies). It will give you a much finer crack so you might have probs sparging. I've only done partials with mine so I haven't really had too much hassle doing it this way. HTH, Tim

    Small Swap

I'm in. I think it's meant to be a mixed dozen/half dozen anyway. Cheers, Tim
