    Perth Brewday Early Nov Anyone?

Had a brewday yesterday with 5 members of my brewclub out here, in preparation for a State brew comp - the Dixie Cup. It reminded me of our bash, but as is there wont, the Texans like to do things "bigger". So, we did a *double* bag mash, one of GP and one of MO, with a few kg of specialty malt...

    Houston Experiences?

Oh, now you've done it Johnny. Stuster will definitely want to ban me now. :P All I can offer to avoid the ban is a micro tasting for the Perthites come December - I've checked with Customs, and getting 24 longnecks won't actually cost me that much in duty and GST to get back into Australia...

    Houston Experiences?

Avery Reverend Quadruple Appearance - Deep amber to copper, head did not persist and disappeared quickly, leaving a little lacing. Even in the glass it looks like it will be thick and syrupy. Aroma smells like candi sugar, with what I would describe as typical Belgian yeast notes (raisin and...

    Recirculating Mash

I have a sparge arm that sits ~6-12 inches above the mash, but delivers only water from the HLT during mash-in and sparging. I recirculate continually for the duration of the mash, exiting from a ball valve underneath the false bottom, and coming back to a full coupler in the top of the MLT. I...

    Esky Mashtun Conversion

Tobins have great hand held immersion heaters, search on part # 4108. They cost some change, but are super handy for bringing temps up quick when you miss strike temps (easy to do when getting to know your system), want to get your boil going quicker, etc. One of best brewing equipment...

Show Us Your Stir Paddle For Your Direct Heat Mlt

Now, after following numerous threads about temp of water while mashing in and direct pouring vs underletting I would of thunk that the bigger issue would be that you were heating the grain at the point of steam injection too much. If there are (perceived?) problems with water denaturing enzymes...

New Book - Brewing Classic Styles

Not sure if this one has been mentioned before, but the Brewing Network is taking preorders for the new book by Jamil and John. Both voices in the field I respect, and have placed an order... another book in the library, and just in time for an early Christmas order!

    Houston Experiences?

Well, been here 5 months or so now, and have found that you can certainly get your hands on some nice beers without much effort. Below are some of the offerings from the local bottlo I've picked up over the last few weeks: "Darwin Stubbies" L to R: Lagunitas Maximus IPA, Great Divide Fresh Hop...

    Ice Box Mash Tun

I reckon it would be overkill as a mash tun for regular batches, but it would be very useful for a big batch, or AHB meet batch... if you do go down this route, look for a unit which has the height to allow you to serve from 3 gallon kegs too - at least you get two uses out of it for the $$$...

    Help Needed In Herms Setup

    Automation - Pid Capabilities

No probs about the hijack - I did the same to Zizzle not too many weeks back! Besides it resurrects the thread so hopefully someone will have some PLC feedback for me :P Yep, when I pump from the HLT to the MLT, the grain will be dry. I tossed up whether to mount a solenoid valve below the...

    Automation - Pid Capabilities

Well, I got the temp controllers sorted, and some nice hefty SSRs to go with them. So now I have two new questions for you, O doyens of things electronic and logic based Firstly, Im getting to the point that I now need to think about the smarts to drive all this stuff. Ive decided Id like to...
