Fridge v freezer for fermenting fridge?

I've got an old kelvinator 1960s vintage fridge freezer i use as my fermentation fridge. Its perfect for cold crashing even after all these years will freeze beer if you dont have a controller on it. Be a sad day when it goes, they don't make em like that anymore

    Grainfather vs Biab

I think the grainfather is a fantastic unit, BUT, the capacity is what kills it for me. Time to brew is a premium for me due to family and work commitments so brewing more beer less often is what works in my situation. No chill has been a god send

    Braumeister clone no boil

2.4kw is 2400w. Which is about what is necessary to boil a single batch. For doubles your going to need bout 4400w to get a decent boil

    Going electric, some advice?

Apparently they have been improved alot. They must be ok if craftbrewer sell them im led to believe ross is pretty critical when it comes to poor quality products

    Going electric, some advice?

I would have to agree completely there, and i wasn't suggesting i would allow him near it. He most certainly won't be anywhere near the gear to begin with but any reduction in risk has to be worth it right? Bribie nailed it with the other reason, its costing a bomb to fire the burner a few...

    Going electric, some advice?

Hey all I've got a 100L craftbrewer pot that i do full volume double biab batches in, that is currently fired by a campfire megajet nasa burner. Since putting the rig together, my wife fell pregnant and now have a 3 month old son. Going forward, i am thinking about his safety when he is old...

    First lager

Ok. Here's what i do with my fermentation on a lager. Its pretty fool proof, and has produced great lagers for me every time. Your first week is primary. Time this from when you see your Krausen appearing. At the start of the second week, draw off a sample and check the gravity of your brew with...

looking to get into kegging/pluto gun, need advice

At the time i bought mine the brand new keg king "premium" kegs that are pretty much identical to a ball lock corny were going for $125. I thought about it and by the time i bought all the bits and pieces to refurbish second hand ones and give them a thorough cleaning i was probably up around...

    Should I Re-hydrate Dried Yeast?

Don't bother as i can't tell the difference, an extra step and extra cleaning that I don't feel is necessary

Forgot to perg keg before shake carbonation

Rdwhahb it will be fine. I've done this more than once and not had much of an issue. Having said that, the keg didn't last longer than a month anyhow. Absolute worst case is you have reduced the shelf life of the keg, the more likely scenario is it will be fine

    Glasses what's best

Headmaster conical (nsw size 425ml or imperial pint if your in sa) schooner glasses here. Good open top on them works well to deliver you all that hop aroma in ipas and pales. I also have a spieglau ipa glass but i think its nothing more than a ****

looking to get into kegging/pluto gun, need advice

I run a pluto gun and i love it. So much easier to keep clean/maintain than taps (unless you spend the money and go all out with snaplok fittings). At the end of a session on the beers, i just fill a container with water and perc, and give the gun a soak for a bit then put it back in the fridge...

    How To - Gelatine

Just poured my first beer fined with gelatine and im impressed. Really helps to force us05 to drop which really seems to want to hang around. My dry hop has all but disappeared though so might throw more in next time

    Whoops. Frozen Fermenter

Issues with 2nd hand CO2 tanks?

Id just buy a new one. I got my 2.6 for $150 brand new full delivered to my door or you can go a 6kg for $200 eBay. Thats about as cheap as they come and are brand new

    Brewing my first Pilsner.. tips?

I normally use the following fermentation schedule and find it produces a nice crisp clean lager. Primary for the first week at 12oC, by this time depending on the yeast strain it should be at about 1.018, if it is then slowly ramp up to 16oC for a diacetyl rest over the second week, then lager...

Moving to Kegs - Advice required

I went with 4x keg king premium kegs (rubberised top and bottom) these seem to be just as good as genuine cornys and are brand new. Ss pluto gun as i can keep the whole thing in the fridge at serving temp (no foaming on first pour) and already had a fridge i got for nothing that i fit 2 kegs...

    Draft pouring issues

Sounds to me like your pils was overcarbed. Co2 will come out of solution without the gas on it to maintain the headspace, so id be hooking the gas back up now you have poured a couple and giving it a go

Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

    I Gots Brew Balls!

I think my mrs has worked out that it's better to let me brew as it stops me spending $80 a go at the local craft beer bottle shop. Never get any objections
