    GUTEN

For my Guten, I'm going to use the hop spider for all hop additions. Now if I want to do first wort hopping, any ideas how I can do this in this case? And when would I do it? If I'm going to sparge would I add the FWHs after the sparge or before? I was thinking, I could finish the sparge, remove...

    GUTEN

Another question. Given my 2 years of all grain brewing are using BIAB. Do you guys do similar full volume brews in the gluten or do you sparge? Probably need to read up on batch sparging but do you use Beersmith or the like to work out the volumes etc?

    GUTEN

I've just bought a Gluten from KegKing this morning. I was wondering what others have done regards working out grain bill totals and water amounts and hop amounts to hit certain OG and IBU for this equipment? I've been doing for the last few years a pretty basic BIAB and I use Beersmith...

    Gelatine leaves

Just got some of the powdered version and added to fermenter as per instructions on this forum, the beer is at 2 degrees at the moment for a few days. Can anyone see an issue with washing and re using the yeast having added gelatine?

    Gelatine leaves

I didn't realise it was an animal product, this doesn't matter to me but was wondering if any others have used it and given your beer to a vegetarian without telling them? !

    Gelatine leaves

I'd like to try gelatine in the fermenter on my latest brew. Looking in my local Coles I see they only have the leaves and not the powder. Any instructions I've seen only refer to powder. Can I use leaves and if so how much? Thanks

Melbourne Brew Club - I'm in inner SE (Caulfield) - nearest?

Hi I'm interested in joining a brew club. Looking at the 2 or 3 Melbourne names I've seen here it's not clear to me where they hold there monthly meetings and therefore which one might be close to me. There's hints on the websites that none of them are anywhere near me but it's hard to tell...

Changing hop schedule for IPA into late hopping only

I've started to leave behind no chill as I've generally found my beers to be a bit too bitter and have a certain harshness. I put this down to the the fact that the wort stays hot for a long time causing additional bitterness. I'm now using an immersion chiller. So yes, chilling will happen...

Changing hop schedule for IPA into late hopping only

I like to do little experiments such as this, part of the fun, and it will give me a chance to compare/contrast with the 'normal' way of doing it. The Jamil article was exactly the one I was reading. I was also listening to a few of his podcasts and a lot of US brewers when talking about their...

Time Efficient Brewing (or How To Brew When You Have Kids)

I've done overnight mashing before although do it slightly differently to the link - and I also BIAB which means you don't have to bother with sparging which helps. My 2 cents split schedule would be: Friday night: After the kids are in bed get everything measured and get organised and heat the...

Changing hop schedule for IPA into late hopping only

Hi I've been reading a bit recently about doing more late hopping in the schedule rather than your usual approach. The idea is that you have a brew that has the same number of IBUs only you add the hops later in the schedule to provide this and it also provides more aroma. You obviously need...

    Beer Tasting in Melbourne

I haven't been brewing for very long and reading about different beer styles and malts and sweetness and bitterness and caramel and biscuit and so on, really when I drink a beer I'll either like the taste or I won't, that's roughly the only tasting I really understand. It would be great to learn...

    Melbourne Homebrew - hello

Hi Caulfield side of town. Any thoughts on best (reasonable selection/price) place to get the grains (milled), hops, yeast? And you know any of these places selling an actual BIAB bag? Can't be doing with making my own. I want to do small batches of BIAB as the problem I have now with the kits...

    Melbourne Homebrew - hello

Hi all From Melbourne and just been doing kit brews over the last 12 months or so, beers have been tasting pretty good but I'd now like to tray all grain brews, the simplest approach to this appears to be the BIAB method so keen to give it a go. Cheers
