After you got it off, was the surface rough or pitted, or was it back to smooth plastic?

I presume the lid is made of the same material, but I don't know, I didn't make it! I have soaked the bottom flange and valve in warm water, about 50C, and also in the same with some tsp and detergent in it and it doesn't soak off, like things do with stainless. I'm not here to have a go at KL...

you seriously think I'd use a used dunny brush....lol :fallingoffchair: This issue isn't about scratches in the plastic, it's about reaction with the plastic i am suggesting!

I don't use scourers on plastic, either a sponge or cotton cloth, or brush bristles. I actually bought a new dunny brush for this purpose because of the long handle....and of course it is dual purpose....hmmm extra flavour ;) But in any case, the tank plastic (PET) is fine, no issues, smooth as...

I see your surfaces are a little blemished as well, how does it feel when you touch it?

Beer has Phosphoric acid in it naturally, coke drink is loaded with it, if the plastic is that sensitive, it ought to be labelled as such.

Any chance of pics so I can compare? I have done about 8 brews in mine.

I doubt it, check the MSDS on these products: Stellerclean: Silicates, Oxidizing agents, Phosphates, and Surfactants and Sodium Metasilicate Stellersan: Kegland: Phosphoric acid 50% Dodecylbenzensulfonic acid 15% Inert/Proprietary Ingredients- 35% (probably water!!!) Another MSDS...

I use Tricleanium (TSP) with a pinch of detergent mixed up in hot water. Sometimes use a bit of straight or diluted phosphoric acid for a tough spot, but TSP generally gets all my stainless clean no problem. You can see on the photos the black areas are the nice and shiny plastic that I expected...

Has anyone noticed this happening in their FZ. The plastic has lost its shiny smooth surface in most places except near what look like the injection points (x4). It looks and feels like beer stone coating being quite rough, you can scrape some of it off, but it doesn't get back to smooth &...

    Drill For Monster Mill

You can use most drills on low if they have a dual speed arrangement, I use an old Black & Decker 18v cordless direct onto my 2 roller el- cheapo mill, works fine. But if you want a budget flex coupling, use a short length of hose of appropriate size and stiffness, scuff up the shafts a bit with...

Try malt conditioning, it works a treat! Also check your water profile, if your down on some of your essential salts, that also has an effect on gum levels I've found.

    Robobrew V3 vs Guten

Let me "edumacate" you gents on thrifty hose clamps that are better than bought stuff and don't leak! Having spent half my life as a farmer, I learned the value of having a roll of tie wire and a decent pair of pliers always on hand. Behold the Bow-Tie-Wire Clamp! Take enough wire to go around...

    GUTEN

Yes I do, especially make sure I do as I'm playing around with my water profile lately. The test is so easy, don't why you wouldn't! I just ask myself this, if I'm getting an increase starch presence reading after a stir, my logic is saying there must be some more starch in there, am I missing...

    GUTEN

So Mark, what info do you use to make your decision to end your mash and start the sparging process? time? iodine testing? what I did before worked? what everybody else does? or about nowish? or.........? I never said stirring would convert starches, but if stirring helps release more starches...
  17. Grok

    GUTEN

Provided your starches ARE converted. If your sparging, then you have decided to move onto the next process in the beer making chain due to time restraints or boredom or.....? But do you really know? Have to ask the question then, why do the commercial brewers have mechanical stirrers?
  18. Grok

    GUTEN

It would suggest if you still have starches to convert, you haven't finished mashing.

    GUTEN

A simple Iodine test before and after you stir might tell you if its worthwhile.

    Modding the FERMENTASAURUS

Yes, just standard 3/4 garden hose fitting. I advise you to get the brass, not the plastic swivel ones because they leak in a short time. The brass right angle ain't cheap, but you won't have any trouble with it.
