    John Guest fittings breaking

Until about 3 months ago I don;t recall ever having this problem - in the last 3 months I think I've lost about 10 different JG fittings to this exact problem. I've found some identical fittings made of stainless steel (the inner bit that breaks is still plastic but seems sturdier and haven't...

    Free Fridge - Perth

Hi all, I have a working fridge, free for whoever wants it. I'm not going to lie, it's quite old, and it has a thin film of light rust pretty much all over it... but it works and will chill down below freezing point if you want. I've used it as my fermentation fridge for a good few years and...

Kegged beer tastes MUCH better than bottled from the same batch

You know, I've always found a similar thing. Beer out of the keg tastes fresh and vibrant for a long time, whereas the beer I bottle tastes a bit dull and sometimes has that twang, and almost always has less hop presence. Not terrible, just not quite right. I'd always thought it may be the...

    AHBs biggest tight arse

Haha touche. I make beer because I love making beer, it's definitely not about saving money or doing things cheaply. Things like catching trains to pick up ingredients, in my book, are not part of making beer. Get it posted, save your time for doing other stuff! Worth the money. Likewise...

    AHBs biggest tight arse

I'm not even the slightest bit tightarse. Like someone else said earlier in the thread, I value my time, and if the time cost of doing/making something myself outweighs the cost of buysing something or someone to do it for me... I go for the latter. Plus I'd rather let professionals do their job...

    Barley Wine - Yeast/Sugar @ Bottling Time

Hi all, I'm brewing my first American Barley Wine on Saturday. Aiming for 1.100 SG, 1.025 FG, 103 IBU. Hopefully I hit my targets after reducing my expected efficiency. My yeast starter is chugging away and ready to go. Anyway, I have some questions about when it comes time to bottling the...

Craft beer exists so guys who don’t drink wine still get to be prete

What a sulky article. Is there even a point to the article, or is this guy just complaining about stuff he doesn't like? What a douche.

    Brewmate question

I think BrewMate is fantastic!! In regards to whether it's "accurate", how would you know?? The only way to know whether my beer is 32 IBU as per the recipe would be to use one of those mass spectrometers, otherwise it's just perception and comparison. But I can say that I get consistant beers...

    Brewmate question

I've used BrewMate for a long time and I've never used the "Aroma" setting... I just use Boil and Dry Hop. Even your 5 minute aroma additions are still just being boiled for 5 minutes! If you're boiling them, use Boil (and I use Boil of 0 minutes for flamout/whirlpool additions). I think the...

    Off flavour, diacetyl?

Mate I had a problem that sounds *exactly* like what you describe here. Strong aroma. Kinda sweetish or honeyish flavour, but not what I would call butterscotch. Absolutely no hop character (even when bucketloads of late hops were used) and it tends to notably worse day by day. I'm so stoked to...

What is Ur take of this. Is it Infection

The thing that nobody is actually specifically saying, is that the orange/brown foamy stuff is called krausen, which is the really active part of fermentation that produces the foamy monster. It means your beer is fermenting really well. The smell is also part of fermentation. It will pretty...

Dedicated Braumeister Guide, Problems & Solution Thread

Thanks peeps, I'll suck it up end enjoy the beer! FWIW - I think I've getting about 3.7-4.0 litres boil-off per hour... does that line up with what you see? Not worrying about the rolling boil anymore - just trying to fine tune my spreadsheet.

Dedicated Braumeister Guide, Problems & Solution Thread

So I've just done my second brew on my 20L BM and have to say I am really not happy with the boil at all. It's probably more like what I would call simmering. Like others have said my temp dances around 98-99 for most of the time, which if you ask me is just not good enough. Even an hour into a...

Can someone please recommend me a beer?

Man, that's where all the fun is! When you're not just consuming stuff as a mechanism to get drunk or get sustenance - but you're really thinking about it, talking about it, enjoying it, broadening your horizons, learning etc etc. Shit, same goes for everything in life doesn't it?
