    Mixing Water & Temperature Calculations

The problem is: what is the final temp when 17l of water @ 20 degC is added to 25 l of water @ 75 degC. Right? Final temp = [(Mass1*Temp1)+(Mass2*Temp2)]/(Mass1+Mass2) = [(17*20) + (25*75)]/(17+25) = 52.74 degC I have assumed that 1 litre of water is 1Kg - that shouldn't introduce errors...

    Mashmaster Thermometers

Plenty of thread tape should stop that. I have one of those short thread ones and haven't been game to mount it - this thread has inspired me to give it a go.

    Confusion About Converting

You can get silicone cookware (flexible baking dishes and muffin pans etc) in the supermarket and cut them yourself. That's what I did and I've had no problems. Gerard

Why Is 23l The "standard" Single Batch Size

My two posts were probably a little confusing. A standard batch is 5 imperial gallons. In the US a gallon is smaller and a 5 US gallon batch fits into a 19 litre keg. The fact that 5 imperial gallons equals 30 bottles I think is due to a bottle originally being defined as an integral fraction...

Brewpot Suppliers - Where Not To Go Imo

My 2c - I have bought a 36l SS and 100l Al pot from Allquip on separate occasions, ordered by phone and had them despatched the following day. I have no complaints. I think the lesson is deal with these guys by phone. Gerard

New Drive For My Crankandstein Mill

I bought one yesterday and put 1/2Kg through as a test - hardly slowed down. Worked a lot better than my little Makita which won't turn the roller at all. 'm not sure the 850rpm is optimal though. Gerard

    Gypsum

I bought a kilogram of casting plaster from Spotlight (don't know if they exist outside of NSW). The box said non-toxic and suitable for children so I figured it wouldn't kill me if it went in the beer!

    Grain Mill

I use one of these (the Porkett not the Crankenstein) - I'm a fairly new AG brewer - about 10 batches so I've crushed about 50-55 kg of grain with it. No flavour problems with the beer but it always seems to be slightly cloudy. Maybe it's because the grain isn't crushed properly.

    Free Beer

Has anyone made this? I would be interested to know if the guarana beans (if they can be sourced anywhere) make much of a difference or if they are just a gimmick to differentiate the beer from other similar HB recipes. cheers
