    Whitelabs 570 Belgian Golden Ale

Hi all, I'm sure this topic has been raised before but I want some advise from the members out there. 12 days ago I brewed an AG Belgian Pale Ale. The efficency was quite good and gravity ended up being 1058. The yeast I chose to use was a Wyeast Belgian Golden Ale Yeast WLP570 I decided...

Ahb Wiki: The No-chiller Method / Using A Cube

Excellent article, this explains everything very neatly, well done. I have been cubing exclusively for the past 9 brews without a problem and have a couple in "storage" waiting to go. It just makes sense (to me anyway) on brew day to do double batches and brew perhaps twice in the day, then...

    Obtaining That Drier Taste

Yep......Thanks guys. It just goes to show you its all about learning and a bit more research. The local HBS gave me that grain bill. The Carapils I had sitting around, that's probably my fault Thanks for your help on this subject I will read up for tomorrow (planning a brew day) I don't...

    Obtaining That Drier Taste

One of the last brews I did that was a bit "sweet" (But hey still very drinkable) had the following 2kg JWM Trad Ale Malt 3kg Maris Otter 500 Meyermann Crystal and I think I put around 150 Carapils in as well. hops were a mix of Cascade and Syrian and 60, 30, 15 and 5. Yeast used was a dry...

    Obtaining That Drier Taste

Yep I thought so, I have had some trouble "fiddling" with the burner and getting the burn time right to maintain temp. I have recently purchased a digital therm and now I have found that I only need to lite that burner for a few minutes every 20 minutes or so. Still its all about...

    Obtaining That Drier Taste

Hi all, I have been brewing AG for a couple of months (up to my 9th AG brew and loving it). After much research I decided to go with a BIAB type system (thanks to Thirstyboy's postings on this forum) to start and I will probably upgrade over the next couple of months to a three vessel system...

    Kids Talk

Careful guys, I have two boys who are basically adults. No matter how fast I brew it always seems to "evaporate". When I ask the lads why my kegs are empty or why my bottles are stacked (neatly) awaiting refil....all I get is innocent looks and the "not me". I will have to resort using 2...

    Keg Maturing

Let it chill for 48 hours, force carb when carbonation is right I then let it sit in the fridge for several days. You can drink it after a week, two is much better.

    Gluten Free Beer

Just reporting back...................Sunday was tasting day for us. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but we purchased a kit from QLD. After reading theough this thread my son and I added some extra hops and 500grams of Golden Syrup. The fermentation went well and ran well over 10 days. We...

    New 40 Ltr Crown Urn

I have a 40 litre urn and have never had the issue of overheating at the power point (mine is about 10 years old). I would be real careful and check the urn at a single power point before you leave it unattended for any period of time. Good luck you won't regret having the urn, it speeds thing up

    What To Buy First?

I went with the kegs first several years ago and only moved into AG brews in the past 6 months or so. If I had to do it again I would still buy the kegs first. I agree with the others it will save you a heap of time and allow you to expand your interest in AG brewing, which I have to say it...

    Philosophical Question

You know when I was younger I would drink for the effect, not the taste. Taste was Ok but the buzz was better, now I'm a little older (and sufferer of too many hazy mornings I enjoy my beer, and whilst I admit sometimes I enjoy it too much it is rare. So after all these years of brewing (and...

    Gluten Free Beer

Geoff, I too plan to remain on the "Barley & Wheat train", but I have an 18y/o who wants to have some beer and who am I to deny him the opportunity :P . Besides which I like the brewing and the "art".

    Gluten Free Beer

Thanks....I dug a bit and found heaps of info and guys willing to share their experience. Its hard to find the malted grains needed, but I suppose that means I just need to expand the shed/brewing room and do it myself. :D
