98l Ss Brew Vessel - Volume Vs Depth

:) Well those numbers are too close at any rate. I proceeded at 2l intervals from 2l through to 50l - at which point I'd come as far as I could up my 300mm steel rule (the clamp was obscuring the numbers at 270mm); and satisfied myself that the progression was true and regular. After whacking...

98l Ss Brew Vessel - Volume Vs Depth

Hi All, I've just spent the evening calibrating Volume vs Depth on my new 98l SS brew vessel. It's a beerbelly beauty with the hopscreen fitted to the pickup tube and a thermometer fitted as well. I used a 2l erlenmeyer flask for my volume reference. I thought I'd share the numbers because I'm...

    Fermented Out In 3 Days!

Hi All, Interesting topic. Do you think that its worth fighting the heat generated by a healthy fermenting yeast, rather than just controlling the ambient temperature? Cheers Breezy

    Ventilating Your Garage

Providing adequate ventilation for your fridges can improve their efficiency massively - and obviously keep your space cooler. There's a snippet about that here: http://www.abc.net.au/science/planet/house/tips.htm Its a good thing you're offsetting the energy used by three fridges and a freezer...

A Guide To All-grain Brewing In A Bag

I was hoping you'd say that. I've been thinking about whirlpooling for a while - this forum is greatly distracting in that regard! - and now I know we'll be doing it too. That makes a lot of sense. You've got a well defined work-flow there. Our bottle bank is not nearly as homogenous:)...

A Guide To All-grain Brewing In A Bag

Hi Bribieg (Urnie?), I think you're right about that hop bed. We've been suspending the hop sock over the fermenter and pouring the cooled wrt through it too. Great results, even if we do occasionally drop one side of the bag and spill the spent hops in. Does the whirlpooling leave most of the...

A Guide To All-grain Brewing In A Bag

Hi All, With some new bling on order from beerbelly, I'm just re-reading the excellent BIABBooklet_1_.pdf to check a few things. There are a couple of mentions of 'clarity' in the pitch section: "To assist with clarity, I siphon the first 200 mls or so into the empty jug pinching the siphon...

Biab Ag Setup Advice - 36l Ss Brewpot From Beerbelly?

Hi All, I think 36L might be a bit too small too. I've been trawling the web for the past few days looking for SS Pots myself. Beerbelly's (unmodified) 70L SS pot is the same price as allquip (allquip's cover price doesn't include tax). The 98L SS is $10 less at allquip. Not sure on the...

    My No Chill Cube Expanded?

Hi All, This No Chill process intrigues me. We're currently mulling over our cooling strategy (Italian Spiral and Humongous Boil Vessel on order). An immersion chiller may be the go - but our brewhouse would then need a pump. And then I'd also have a SWMBO enquiring as to cost per litre... Is...

Holgate Esb Any Idea's On A Recipe

Lurking on this one sorry... Its an awesome beer and I'd love to build one too. I noticed there is a hint on the bottle about 'specialty grains yielding a copper sheen' or something like that. I'm still a novice on grain characteristics; but do your grains lend some reddish/copper colour...

    Cleaning Bottles?

We is five like minded beer loving boys with a common need for quality shed time. The fact that our shed time yields the odd bottle of beer is a happy one:) We brew just off Brunswick St in Melbourne from the back of a music studio operated by a couple of the guys. Have been at it for just over...

    Cleaning Bottles?

We got sick of the scrub and sanitise process very quickly. The brushes are expensive; $5 (ish) and only lasting two or three batches. The sanitisers (we used both iodophur and sodium percarbonate) were expensive - especially when bought in small batches from the LHBS. So, (and this suggestion...

    Brew Craft

We use the Richmond Brewcraft quite regularly. And are happy with them. Strangely three out of the five in our brewery got very poor treatment at another well known brew store (name omitted to save a bunfight); so ended up at Richmond Brewcraft by default. Jason there will talk the legs of a...

    Priming With Sugar!

Do you think there are sanitisation (sanity?) issues with using sugar cubes (or carbo drops for that matter)? One of the reasons we bulk prime is that we (supposedly) remove some infection vectors by boiling the sugar solution before adding it to the priming bucket. Cheers Breezy

    50-60 Litre Fermenting Vessel

Hi All, We bought two of these: http://www.peopleinplastic.com.au/prodview.php?id=04 for our brew-space (with five thirsty boys on the team the small fermenters were never going to keep up). People In Plastic were good, cheap and in the end we had the two carboys plus taps and lids delivered...
