Vic "off Season" Swap Tasting Thread

Yes; the gentle clinking of the various bottles as we went about our illicit trade was music to the ears and strangely comforting...

Vic "off Season" Swap Tasting Thread

Brilliant thanks - bloody shame you couldn't be in on your own party though:| We still haven't tasted any of the beers yet. Had one of those brew nights last night. I got things rolling and then had to leave half way through the boil as my better half came down with a migraine. Two of the boys...

    97 Bottles

http://97bottles.com Just been playing around on this site - nice easy interface to review beers and see what others are drinking and what they think of it. Not sure how it compares to ratemybeer and the others... Cheers Breezy

Vic "off Season" Swap Tasting Thread

Geez it looks good in your glass! The original recipe for this has a big hop bill (http://forum.northernbrewer.com/viewtopic.php?t=15532&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0); and we're gradually working our way up to it (the case swap is the third iteration). But splitting the 0 minute additions...

    Grain Bill For Rasberry Wheat

Not sure about the grains; but this recipe ('cranberry zinger!') describes blending the fruit, adding it to the (empty) secondary fermenter and then racking over the top of it. http://www.byo.com/blogs/Easy-Brewday.html Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Cheers Breezy

    Vic "off Season" Swap

Good to see you all this morning guys. Sorry I couldn't stick around for a glass of water:) Our SNPA clone's been in the bottle 18 days now. I just had a pint of it and happily declare it good to go. Our next brew night is Tuesday, so I'm looking forward to getting the boys focussed on a bit...

    Earthquake In Melbourne

Yep; got my pint of SNPA clone shaking nicely. House got a good old rock up. My case swap beers are ok though - never fear:) Apparently a volcano has erupted in Indonesia - might be related. Long way away though.

Usa's New Fascination With No Chill

Quite an interesting thread. There are some very valuable tidbits in amongst the angst: The presence of oxygen in the cube actually reduces any risk of botulism. (The actual risk is irrelevant for most of us.) Its not really necessary to squeeze cube to totally eliminate headspace. I find this...

Yep, I'm in. Had our first taste on Tuesday night and declared the batch to be ... (Well I'm hoping you guys can provide that verdict.) Cheers and see you all at 9am. Breezy

    Vic "off Season" Swap

True. Mostly. Call me greedy, but I'm expecting to get 12x750ml = 9l back for the 9l I'm providing. If more then fine. And given that the bottles have to be divided evenly then that means there has to be 24 stubbies. This is liquid gold we're talking about here!

    Vic "off Season" Swap

Hi All, Ours is now safely in the bottle. We're a bit nervous about unleashing it on our peers - but I guess that's the point. No ideas on cafes - I'll just turn up where I'm told Cheers Breezy

How Do You Kill Fruit Flies?

One thing that was quite successful for me was hanging a good old flypaper near the worm farm. Was absolutely covered in them after a day. Took two papers (and my aforementioned treatments) to get them down to bearable numbers.

How Do You Kill Fruit Flies?

As was said above Mike, they do sound like vinegar flies. I get them a lot in my worm farm when its gone either anaerobic or too acidic. Solution is to add garden lime/dolomite (to offset the acidity); keep the heap aerated; and ensure you've always got plenty of dry carbonaceous (!) material...

    Fridge For Sale

Hi Rob, Thanks again for the fridge; it was good to meet you on Sunday. We've yet to plug it in, but were all extremely happy with its height when we got it into our brewspace - perfect for leaning on while enjoying a beer:) Cheers Breezy

Some of the links in the above (excellent) article are dead. This one has some good information on coated vs uncoated, the addition of a surfactant, as well as recipes for various applications (mild bleach, concentrated bleach, soaker, carpet cleaner etc. Interesting to see what goes into the...

    60 Litre Fermenter

That it is. I've hurt my back twice since we started using the 60l jobbies. Now I don't pretend that I can lift a full one by myself - its strictly a two man job. Breezy
