    Fennel Beer?

I'd be interested to hear how you go - porter or stout or otherwise.

    Tosser's Extra Dry

Ahem....umm anybody else remember that carpet cleaner of a beer called "Thirsty Dog" by Castlemaine Perkins back in either late '99 or 2000? http://www.australianbeers.com/beers/thirs...hirsty6Pack.jpg :icon_vomit:

    Incomplete Primary Fermentation

Fair call. I will agree with you there that you must ALWAYS use the hydrometer readings to determine exactly when the brew is done. I was merely suggesting my own quick and thus far practical method of having a sniff of it too. I do both and haven't had any problems. In hindsight rather than...

    Incomplete Primary Fermentation

Thanks Big Nath... as I said: "Let it continue to do its thing." As in: wether it may be fermenting or not it will still be undergoing the process. Leave it go for a bit longer to be completely sure. If I am wrong, well hey my apologies. As for sticking your nose in an open fermenter, some of...

A New Brewing Subculture "death Ghetto"

Surely he couldn't have carried that into your place...he can't have more than 3 fingers left on one hand?!

    Incomplete Primary Fermentation

Brewer Boy, I'd suggest you leave it go for a few days longer yet. I asked a similar question here a while back and should've done a search first, as this sorta query is one asked more often than most. My mistake! Best and most obvious way to find out if it's still ticking away is to open her...

    Freezin Goo Tins

yep, true...I'll ask a few questions first before I fork out for it. Did you ever have any issues with it, Darrtoo?

    Freezin Goo Tins

Cheers for that Darrtoo, I'll have a look on the net first and maybe drop in on my way home. I work out that way so no big dramas there. I took everyones advice and found myself walking out of Big W with an english bitter, euor lager and a canadian tin as well. Got the raised eyebrow when...

    Doctors - Edinburgh

If you like the Doctors mate, you HAVE TO go to The Canny Mans pub in Morningside, Edinburgh - if you haven't already. Any pub that has a brass sign on the outside exclaiming: no cameras, no mobile phones and no backpackers allowed deserves a visit. Best bloody mary I've ever had too.

    Freezin Goo Tins

Hey darrtoo, Whereabouts in Newy and what is/was the name of the shop, please mate? I'd be keen to test them out in a few brews... Cheers, Teee

    Bottle Bomb

Years back when I was a spotty teenager myself & a mate put down a ginger beer - our first homebrew ever. Problem was we had no idea about cleanliness whatsoever. 3 things that help bottle bombs to cause major chaos: 1.) a warm tropical Queensland climate, 2.) spotty teenagers thinking they...

    First Non-kit Brew

Melbournebrewer, if you're gungho enough to launch into all grain head first, I take my hat off to you. I'd be pretty keen to hear how you went tho - I'm looking to move into AG but am still reading up on all of it. Go an extract brew first is my advice, but hey...advice and opinions are like...

    White Rabbit White Ale

If any of you are in Newcastle, The Mary Ellen has the dark ale on tap and hopefully will have the white by now too. Not been in lately to be 100% sure tho. Sunday arvo tasting sessions used to happen for a reasonable price too... I agree that the dark is way better from the tap than out of the...

    Muntons Stout W/ Mhb's Split Grain&hop Stuck At 1020...

Thanks for the advice gents, appreciated. Reckon I'll try leaving it to finish (yep -probly has already) and settle out in primary and see how it looks & tastes next Friday. Kinda looking forward to see how it develops over some time once bottled also - so a bit of yeastiness will hopefully add...

    Muntons Stout W/ Mhb's Split Grain&hop Stuck At 1020...

Bit of a dilemma, I've got a Muntons Stout on the go - and has been for 13 days now - but I've tampered with it by adding an extra 300 grams of dark malt and also a steeped grain & hop mix (courtesy of Mark from MHB in Newy). My main drama is I have to bugger off to Victoria for a week and the...
