    Funky Smell

Westy1 Let me emphasize the don't splash part. My first one was a complete stuff up after i recieved some dodgy advice from the home brew / home wine store near the Victoria market in Melbourne. All i wanted was some pipe to run between the 2 taps and the chick...(i know... first error)...

    Jameson Raspberry Ale

Gents, I went down to my local bottle shop last night (Yarraville Cellers) which fortunately specialise in micro brew beers! I found the Jamesons Raspberry ale and rushed home to throw it in the fridge for a little bit as i had been wanting to brew a raspberry ale myself. After an hour or so...

    Double Mix

Gents, Sorry for the amature question - i searched but couldn't find this question asked before. If i'm making 2 kits in one fermenter, does one use both sachets of yeast? does that also mean that i would be adding something like 2 kg of malt / dex??? if not more? Will this take longer to...

    The Supermarket Challenge

Morning, I picked up 2 of the Cascade kits for $4ea on clearance at my local safeway in Newmarket. I also picked up 2 of their home brand ones for shits and giggles for $2ea. I figure the home brand one will end up costing under the $10 mark all up. None of them were even close to their use...

Have I Just Ruined My Beer?

Does anyone have a trick to controlling the temp? I have a heat pad that will normally leave it around 24 degrees. However if i turn it off it's sit quite nicely around 16 degrees by itself. As ales are supposed to be 18-20deg - which one is preferred? just over or just under? I'm assuming...

Have I Just Ruined My Beer?

Thanks for the reply, As for drinking it fast as the long term stability may be affected - I can do that! :D So rather than 7 days primary and 7 to 14 secondary just leave it in primary for 14? or should i leave it for 21 days? It's so hard to know what to do as a newbie really. So many...

Have I Just Ruined My Beer?

Gents, I was in my local HBS on saturday to buy some pipe to transfer my beer from primary to secondary fermenters. They recommended i buy a syphon and do it that way. So i syphoned from first to second and had to run the beer down the wall of the fermenter as the hose was too short. I tried...

    Some Guidance Needed

Morning, thanks for the advice - a few questions "Boil all the extract with the hops." - do i throw this in at the start with the 200g malt? for the full 40mins? I don't really have temp control for the fermenters - I have a heating pad but thats about it. I'm away for a month in total...

    Brew Belts

My HBS told be that you will only get a year or so out of a belt before it packs itself. Was he simply trying to upsell me to a heat pad? He told me noone really uses these anymore. Sorry to hijack..

    Some Guidance Needed

Gents, So here's the deal - I have just picked up a muntons IPA that i am so excited about it. (even though i won't be able to drink it for some time) I was recently out at Bridge road brewery in Beechworth - they have an IPA that is sensational! I also got some extra cascade hops (6.3%) - i...
