    Noob Kegging questions

Slightly off topic but regarding the Starsan. I mix to ratio on the bottle with demineralised water and a spray bottle and never get the foaming out the top. Do you lads just go hard with how much you put in? Ps never had an infection so must be working.

Any chance of saving a high FG?

Well that's a fair comment if I knew the refractometer was the actual bloody issue. My issue was high FG which I'd researched the hell out of. Thanks to btrots87 astute eyes he picked up on my measuring device and hence the issue.

Any chance of saving a high FG?

Btrots87 you're a bloody legend. Quick calc on a few sites I found show the FG is right where it needs to be. Now to work out how to get my efficiency up to 70% and I'll be one happy man. Thanks again.

Any chance of saving a high FG?

So a little bit of background, I'm new to all grain with only 4 BIABs under my belt. First 2 went fine except for efficiency which will be a work in progress. However my last two brews have finished extremely high on the FG. The last one I put down to a lack of airation however my latest brew I...

    First BIAB, low OG, Why?

Thanks so much for all your responses. I've tweaked my BS2 profile to more accurately represent my process from what I learnt on the day and now I'm only a few points off with a 70% efficiency. Certainly looks like I have a Sh!t tonne to learn and just when I was getting comfortable with...

    First BIAB, low OG, Why?

Gents Calcs were taken off Beersmith 2. I used 31 L for the mash, forget the pre boil volume but the post was 21L (planned 23L) for a 19 L batch. Obviously these are things I'll try get more accurate next time. The biggest problem I find with Beersmith is finding a BIAB profile that...

    First BIAB, low OG, Why?

So did my first BIAB on the weekend using a crown urn. The recipe called for: 2.7kg pale (I added 3kg) 1kg wheat 500g Vienna 200g caramalt Got water to 70 and pitched grain to find it dipped to only 68 which was higher than expected (will tweak for next time). I then let it mash for 60mins...

    Kegging Setups

Hey mofox1, the wood is actually Merbau, similar to jarrah. The collar is just liquid nailed/siliconed down. Put weight on it until it sets. As for the insulation, I can't tell you. All I know is it's 10mm thick and I have two layers on, it's used in the tropics for vapour sealing in...

    Kegging Setups

I've posted my setup before but now that she's full, with the gas external and a manifold I thought she was worth sharing again. Last addition will be a 4th tap to even it all out.

Overcoming bitterness with late dry hop

Thanks manticle. Might just be best to let it run its course and adjust recipe for next time while doing a class hop test for science and fun. Thanks again.

Overcoming bitterness with late dry hop

Hi all, have a quick question I need help with. I used Beersmith 2 for mobile for the first time to create an American amber ale using northern Brewers and Amarillo. Now I chose not to dry hop but in testing the brew before kegging I'm noticing it's probably a touch more bitter than I wanted. My...

    Leaking manifold gas tap/valve

tnt650r I had exactly the same problem with my kk manifold the other week. My solution in the end was to change my set up rather than the inlet side haha coz that thing is on f-Ing tight. I know that doesn't help. You should be able to swap it though with a vice and spanner to ensure it doesn't...

Gas system issue - not the normal

Sorry couldn't work out how to edit. Some testing appears to show you guys are right. Turned her off to clean her out before the father in law arrives tomorrow and the first pour post cleaning was all head. So that answers that it's a temp issue. So thinking a fan to try even the temp...

Gas system issue - not the normal

Thanks all for your tips. Upon further investigation there is approx 20cm step up which I'm thinking could be a factor. See picture attached. I'm also running at 0.5 to 3.5 degrees to reduce compressor starts as she's an old freezer. So knowing this added info you think it'll still be a beer...
